This newly renovated cottage is the perfect place for a romantic get-away from the city, a honeymoon or a fun-filled family vacation. Crooked Oaks Cottage is ideally located in Dunnottar, a historic beach community on the south-west shore of Lake Winnipeg that has long been known for its many swimming piers and beaches.

The cottage is a year-round vacation rental property that sleeps six, with a queen in the large master bedroom, a double in the second bedroom, a sleeper sofa in the office/library area, and two single beds in the classic guest house (Bunkie). The cottage has been completely remodeled, with a large modern kitchen with four appliances (including a dishwasher), modern bathroom with walk-in glass shower, new washer and dryer, gas burning wood stove, and pickled oak hardwood floors throughout. The beautiful pine plank ceilings from the 1950s remain. The kitchen is very well equipped for your cooking needs.

Crooked Oaks is just one block away from Lake Winnipeg, the 10th largest freshwater lake in the world. It's a five-minute stroll along a pretty, park-like creek to the nearby sandy beach with a long pier that stretches out over the changeable waters of the huge lake and invites you to linger. It's a 12-minute walk to the larger Matlock (Milne) beach.

We rented the cabin for a week because of our daughter's wedding. We have rented many houses around the world and this one was one of the best. Top notch amenities and incredible interior and exterior. It was a very charming place to stay for a week. When we first arrived we were going to BBQ and noticed the tank was low on Propane. We called the owner to ask where we could fill it up. She insisted on coming up to the cabin from Winnipeg and she took the tank and filled it for us. Now that is incredible service. As well she has a manual inside the cabin which outlines everything you could imagine in fantastic detail. We have never had that type of luxury before. The owner is a fantastic person to deal with and we look forward to renting the cabin again.

We loved this cottage. We had our family come when they could for the week that we rented and for one evening we had 7 adults. a toddler and dogs and we all slept comfortably for that night. We appreciated the spacious yard and cabin for the rainy days. The large kitchen, dishwasher and a good array or pots and pans made meal preparation easy. Our girls were happy to cook in such a large and well equipped kitchen!
The sea colors in the cabin and the large windows give you the feeling that you are in the finest resort.

This felt like a home away from home. Everything you need and more. Kate did an amazing job decorating and all you have to do is pick up her very well organized guest guide to learn where to find things, places to go in the area, birds to look for, berries to pick and even everything you need to know about the insects in the area!

If you like to read or play games there's no shortage of that either.

The beaches and piers are all within walking distance and you can relax at the end of the day around the fire pit.

I would recommend staying here to anyone who enjoys country/lakeside living. Lovely!

The cottage was better than expected and the service from Catherine was excellent. The cottage is very well equipped, wonderful collection of books, games, etc. She has everything detailed on the "how to" for items such as the fireplace, tv, etc. Large property with a nice firepit, parking pad for 2 vehicles, nice outside deck, Bunkie, really great! The place was clean and neat and it really exceeded our expectations. Already thinking about 2018 rental!

Wonderful little spot. We had a family event in the area, and stayed at Crooked Oaks. The cottage is tidy, well equipped and well located. Almost wished we weren't so busy so I could have dived deeper into the collection of books Kate maintains on site.
Kitchen was well equipped, the bathroom is fully updated and the fireplace kept us cozy when it was chilly.
I would stay there again without hesitation, and am quite comfortable recommending it to anyone looking in the area.
