Steeped in history, this cottage originally built in 1922, sits on 450 feet of Peninsula Lake shoreline. Nestled amongst the trees, the main cottage boasts a four-piece bathroom, and five bedrooms, each with a door leading on to the porch. With a total of 1 Queen, 3 double and 4 singles, there is lots of room for your large family.
Stretching across the front of the cottage is a large screened-in porch with lots of seating to enjoy the wonderful view of the lake. Off the porch are French doors opening into the spacious living room. The first thing that hits you is the unique, floor to ceiling, stone, wood-burning fireplace reminiscent of the early 1800s. Grouped around this focal point are cozy sofas and wicker chairs, with extra seating available on the built-in window seat. There's even a piano (not well-tuned) for those of you enjoy the occasional sing-a-long. Next to the living room is the dining room with seating for 12. There is a door leading to a sun deck, again with plenty of seating. Off the dining room is the fully-equipped, family-sized kitchen. What is most incredible is that every single one of these rooms has a gorgeous view of the lake.
Once outside, you will be amazed at the clarity of the sandy-bottomed lake that is shallow for at least 30 feet and perfect for children. A long dock leads to another sun drenched dock with seating and access to deeper water. You can moor the canoe here or over at the two slip boathouse that houses another canoe and a kayak. Moving up from the waterfront, there is a delightful babbling brook. Where the lake and brook meet, there is some wonderful fishing.
This charmingly nostalgic compound will put you in mind of simpler days, when a family cottaged for the summer traveling by steamship or railway, complete with trunks! Yet, less than 10 minutes away is the bustling town of Huntsville with all the amenities you need and no less than five golf courses. Enjoy the privacy and feel of the wilderness yet be close town, entertainment, fine dining and some of the best golfing available.
