Sometimes when we visit a cottage for the first time it is difficult to remember that we are here on business and resist the temptation to just pull up a Muskoka chair and spend the rest of the afternoon on the dock. We had that feeling when we first visited Pine Cone Hill.
Hidden away on cosy Stimears Lake just south of Bancroft, Pine Cone Hill offers what most families are looking for in a summer vacation - child-friendly waterfront, privacy and peace and quiet, all in a comfortable surrounding that will have that kids asking "can we please stay one more day?"
When you arrive, you'll notice that there is ample space for enjoying outdoor games, be it tossing a ball around or getting down to the more serious business of determining the family horseshoes champion. There is a fire pit as well, great for that long-standing cottage tradition of toasting marshmallows and sharing tales and songs.
Stepping inside, you'll find clean and bright accommodation. The main floor boasts 3 bedrooms, kitchen, main bathroom and a generous size dining area (with lake view of course) for enjoying family dining. Outside on the deck is plenty of seating for both sun and shade, and for keeping an eye on the younger set in your group who may be pursuing nautical activities at the shore. The lower level features a living and gathering area along with a 4th bedroom, giving your group plenty of options for spreading out or coming together.
Let's step outside and meander down a gentle slope to the waterfront. There is a dock here and a shallow, sandy entry which is the perfect wading area for toddlers. Judging by the relaxed look of the family of ducklings we saw during our visit indicated that they felt the same way! The lake is not large, so it tends to be pretty peaceful, lacking the constant motor traffic of larger waterways. Judging by the pair of bass we saw hanging around the dock, you may want to try your luck casting a line or two.
Feel like getting out and about? Bancroft offers everything you need at a distance of just 10 minutes away - close enough for convenience but far enough to keep civilization at bay during your stay. We're pretty certain that wherever you may choose to roam by day, you'll be anxious to get back for more quality time at the cottage.

Waterfront
There's gentle slope down to the waterfront. Here there is a dock and a shallow, sandy entry which is the perfect wading area for toddlers. Depth off the dock is around 2½'. Water shoes are highly recommended.
