This is an ideal location on the Burnt River in the Haliburton Highlands, for nature lovers and those who want to while away their vacation canoeing, fishing or simply being idle on the river.
The Burnt River is a meandering stretch of water that wends its way through the Haliburton Highlands. A well kept secret, the riverbank is dotted with cottages whose owners value the peace and tranquillity this area is known for. No incessant buzzing of seadoos here as the only watercraft you are likely to see are canoes and kayaks and perhaps the occasional pedalboat. Avid canoeists and kayakers will enjoy the day-long trips which can start anywhere from the north end of Lake Kashawigamog through several portages and leading eventually to Canning Lake and the Drag River down to the dam in the town of Kinmount. Swimmers are well catered for with a big dock for lounging and swimming from, and a small, shallow walk-in area.
The chalet-style cottage is attractively decorated with a blue and yellow colour scheme; together with the comfortable furnishings, framed prints and marine collectables, there's a beach house feel about the cottage that we particularly liked. The splash of scatter rugs on colourful laminated floors throughout the home adds to the ?coziness factor? of this cottage.
The Great Room spans the width of the cottage overlooking the front lawn and provides a broad view of the riverfront. This room is dividing into two sections ? an entertainment area on one side and a play or lounge area on the other side. The kitchen and dining area are an open concept design where the rooms are together, yet separate, and can comfortably accommodate up to 8 people at the table. A large four-piece bathroom is conveniently located off the main hallway leading to the dining and kitchen areas, as is one of the three bedrooms..
Upstairs, the master bedroom opens up into the loft area which overlooks the living room while providing a panoramic view of the river. This area is a great spot to curl up with a book or to just sit back and enjoy the scenery through the floor- to- ceiling windows. A small bathroom and a second bedroom with a captain's bed is tucked away on the back half of the cottage. This is a great set-up for families with small children who want to be within earshot of their bedroom.
Overall this is a great location that previous guests have enjoyed so much they keep coming back!

While waiting to go in, be sure to wind your way through the theatre (which is really a museum, sorted in decades, of the history of film).
