Welcome to The Kennisis Lake Lookout! Located in the Haliburton Highlands, 2.5 hours north of the GTA, 1 hour south of Algonquin Park, 30 minutes west of the town of Haliburton and 10 minutes east to Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve.
Surrounded by white pines, the Canadian shield, and framing a picturesque view of Kennisis Lake, the Lookout was built in an octagonal shape on an outcropping of granite, steps away from the waters edge and overlooking the Blueberry Islands.
Newly renovated, the Lookout provides a unique experience throughout the seasons, with an open concept great room and panoramic windows overlooking views of Kennisis Lake. For sunset seekers looking for a perfect end to a perfect day, there?s a bit of magic in a Kennisis Lake Lookout sunset.
The cottage includes canoe and kayaks ? Kennisis Lake is the 2nd largest lake in the Haliburton Highlands, part of a 2 lake chain and is approximately 25km long for miles of exploring crystal clear water for swimming, diving and relaxing in the summer and skiing, snowmobiling and getting cozy in the winter.
The Cottage: The main living area is complete with an island kitchen, fully equipped with stove, fridge, dishwasher, countertop appliances, dishes and cookware. For grilling masters, a propane BBQ sits at the ready for your culinary creation. The great room faces the lake, with surrounding windows, fireplace and plenty of seating. For indoor dining, a dedicated area gives you table and chairs seating for ten. An outdoor rock outcropping sitting area hosts a fire pit to enjoy your favourite beverage, shore dinner, roasted marshmallows and wildlife.
The Property: The wrap-around, lake facing deck surrounds the cottage providing both sun and shade all day long. Outdoor lounging and dining furniture provide for plein-air mealtimes, tanning, curling up with a good book, a game of cards or checking your e-mail. Adjacent open green space allows for outdoor games and activities. With heritage lilies, circa 1920 lovingly planted around The Kennisis Lake Lookout, the flower, photo and art enthusiast, may catch a glimpse of the rare purple trillium on the property.
Amenities: 3 bedrooms, and 2 full bathrooms. The bedrooms provide for one king size bed, one queen bed, two bunk beds ? two singles and one with an upper single and lower double. The 3-piece modern bathrooms each provide a toilet, sink and shower; one bathroom is an en-suite to the master bedroom and the main 2nd bathroom is off the main living area.

The Fishing: For those who love fishing, Lake Kennisis is a favoured fishing destination year-round. Primarily a lake trout fishery, the lake also holds yellow perch, brook trout, smallmouth bass, walleye, muskellunge, largemouth bass and rock bass. Lake Kennisis is also one of the most popular ice fishing lakes in this 2-lake chain. A kayak, canoe, paddle boards, varying sizes of lifejackets and fishing equipment are provided for you to use with our compliments.

The Haliburton Forest: The cottage is just minutes from the 100,000-acre Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve with its groomed hiking and biking trails, lakes and world-famous Wolf Observatory. Breweries: Looking for some local libations? The Haliburton Highlands has two great breweries in town Boshkung Brewing, and Haliburton Highlands Brewery. If you want to continue the tour check out Lake of Bays Brewing, Muskoka Brewery and Sawdust City Brew Co.
The Islands: Kennisis Lake is a deep lake nestled within the Canadian Shield, with many public islands for the intrinsic explorer. Blueberry Islands ? Seen from the deck and the dock Blueberry East and Blueberry are great for a day trip to explore and picnic. Norah?s Island ? Norah?s Island is a 22-acre island to the Northwest of the Kennisis Lake Lookout.The island is the home of several rare species of orchids, including the round-leafed orchid. Other plant species include bearberry, clubmoss, goldthread, honeysuckle, bracken fern, lady fern, lichens, painted trillium, pale corydalis, pipsissewa, red-berried elder, saskatoon berry, starflower and wintergreen.Other Islands ? 2 Loon Island & Keewaydin Island to name a few.
Getting Around: The cottage is located on a municipally maintained road which is frequently plowed and sanded throughout the winter months. The driveway is flat and easy to drive in and out of. There is parking on site.
