Surrounded by National Parks on three sides, Bighorn Country is the ideal mountain get-away for visitors wishing to stay further from the more touristy locations, while retaining easy access to some of the major attractions of the Canadian Rockies. Aurum Lodge and Cottage are an all-season destination, particularly well suited for those engaging in low-impact outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, trail-riding, canoeing and climbing in summer or winter-hiking, snow-shoeing, X-country skiing, ice-climbing and dog-sledding in winter. Use this location as your base to explore the many hiking trails in the region (over 100 trail heads are within an hours drive from this retreat) or take a day trip to Lake Louise or the popular Columbia Icefields during your stay. Rental Units:
Two self-contained units (designed for double occupancy) in the cottage and one two-bedroom apartment in the loft of the utility building (sleeps four to five). All units are fully self-contained with kitchen, featuring gas range / oven, fridge / freezer and microwave. They have private baths w. shower and are fully winterized with central heating and wood-stoves. The facility is more adult-oriented but the apartment is suitable for families. Non-smoking throughout and there are no phones, TV's or WiFi in the guest units, nor is there cellphone reception on the property (the apartment features a Blue-Ray/DVD player).
This development is largely solar powered so there are some restrictions on the use of electrical appliances (please inquire).
Note that self-contained units are separate from the lodge and access to the lodge and meals in the lodge are reserved for lodge guests only.

Low impact, human powered activities are possible year round as well as wildlife observation, photography or day trips into the Parks. In summer, most guests go hiking, trail riding, canoeing, cycling, mountaineering or join guided glacier walks in Jasper Park or historic mine tours in Nordegg.
