We had a lovely time at Southfork Retreat. Make sure you put in your GPS DRIVE not Road. The marina is close by and easy to get to. Groceries nearby and the tourist town of Bobcaygeon is about 30 mins away.
The cottage has plenty of room for everyone. Five adults and no one was complaining! Pool table was a huge hit with everyone. And the sauna, was used daily!!
Sitting on the dock having tea, watching the sunsets was my ritual and of course a fire to roast our marshmallows.
The kitchen has everything you need as well. Lots of bathrooms for all as well.
Tons of chairs on the massive deck, fun to sit on the swivel chairs or the swing.
Our boat fit perfectly at the dock as well. And it's solid. No swaying!! Easy walking access to the dock, also has electricity and a huge light for those coming in from night fishing!
We will booking again next fall.
Sandra

Cottage nirvana!
We were fortunate enough to book this cottage for stays in both 2020 and 2021. The owners were both very pleasant and easy to deal with, and the location of the cottage (being about 5 mins away from Coboconk) was extremely convenient. I could go on and on about how amazing this place is, but will try my best to list the top features for your consideration.
The cottage itself is magnificent, with tons of space and many modern convenience features. Both the kitchen and master bath were both recently renovated (2021?), and they did an amazing job. Sauna, fireplace, vaulted ceilings, hottub, gas appliances, cooling drawers, wifi, satellite TV, ?the list goes on and on! We especially loved the outside seating area?.on a huge multi level deck with glass panel railing and multiple access points. You could comfortably seat a small army outside! The lake front featured a nice fire-pit area along with a huge dock, both with additional seating options. We loved morning coffee or late afternoon drinks at the end of the dock, enjoying the beginning of the day or the beautiful sunsets. The view of the lake was simply stunning! To top it off, the fishing was incredible?and this was just off the dock! Caught multiple large mouth, small mouth and pike using topwater lures (including a 6 lb smallmouth behemoth!). We didn't have a boat, but there was ample dock space for all of your toys. The owners also include a canoe, paddleboat and kayaks!
Don't debate, just book it!

As per the other other reviews, this is a gorgeous and well equipped cottage on a fantastic spot on Balsam Lake. The owners are very nice and friendly. I initially had some problems with receiving the contact and timely replies, which we finally sorted out. We brought our own 21' jet boat which fit well on the dock. Originally the owner wanted to keep his boat at the property but kindly agreed to keep it at a nearby marina; it would not have been ideal to have both there, as the prime spot fits only one boat.

The cottage is indeed lovely, however it is in minor disrepair. We had a few of issues unfortunately:
- The internet initially didn't work (this didn't bother us, and we don't blame the owner).
- The hot tub had a leak, which we were informed would be looked at during our stay but wasn't.
- The shower door kept falling off its hinges.
- Many of the lights either didn't work or perhaps were burnt out.
- The dock had missing/loose boards.
- The dock ladder was not secured and unusable
- There were rusty screws and nails in the fire pit and surrounding grass area.

The last three points were safety hazards, and when pointed out to the owner the reply was "thanks for letting me know, don't use the ladder". The issues and owner's response were disappointing given the premium nature of this rental property.

Overall we had a fantastic time, and it was a lovely place to stay. This place has a ton of potential, just needs a bit of TLC.

Réponse proprio:
We thank this renter for his review and glad that he and his family had a great vacation. With respect to the minor issues raised, the majority of these were actually dealt with during his stay - Bell came and fixed the internet, we had just opened up the hot tub and although it had a leaky pump, it was operational and used by the renters. The repair company was not able to come until the following week (which they did); the dock ladder was removed until we had an opportunity to repair it [there is a walk in beach area so the ladder is not essential]. This spring, we installed a beautiful new deck with glass railings [about $15,000 cost] and the contractor missed a few of the screws in the fire pit area (where the old deck was burned) - these have been removed. The dock doesn't have any missing boards and is completely usable, although it is getting a little tired. Planning for a new dock next spring. Light bulbs have been replaced (hadn't noticed they were burned out).
Shower door has been permanently removed - a previous renter had been a little too rough with it and jarred it off its hinges a bit - it has been replaced with a pole and lovely shower curtain.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our cottage and always appreciate feedback so that we can fix any issues - we want our renters to enjoy themselves and come back year after year. Fortunately, many renters from this summer have reserved for next summer already!!

This is a fantastic cottage close to Toronto, only one and a half hours drive. The cottage has a really large beautiful deck with lots of seating looking out to Balsam Lake. The sunsets are truly beautiful. Small children will enjoy the fishing off the dock and adults will have lots of fun further out in the lake. The kitchen has top of the line appliances, the stove has a griddle that is just perfect for making pancakes and sausages! The water access is perfect. This part of the lake is so calm, it is great for swimming, kayaking. Everyone old and young enjoyed their stay.
Owners are easy to talk to. Will definitely rent again.

We spent one of the best times of our life at this cottage for 2 weeks around the August civic holiday. The house is gorgeous and made that "aw!" impression on our family and friends who stayed with us. There was that amazing cathedral ceiling, the huge back deck with easy access to the lake with kayaks and a canoe. I'm not a cook but the chef's kitchen was so much fun for me to try out some culinary skills from my Top Chef addiction. That stove is something i want to have in my own home and we took fotos to look for it in Toronto. Of course i can't forget to mention the pool table that converted to ping pong. This was a real hit with our guests. I really loved our master bedroom too, huge and rustic in a cozy way. we already booked again for next year and i can't wait to go back.
