Waterfront cottage with beautiful view of Howes Lake from high on the hill. Tiered landscaping with stairs down to the sandy beach, firepit and dock. There is generous deck space and a large lawn area. Enjoyable walking along our peaceful cottage road. Bring your boat and enjoy fishing for walleye/ pickerel and small mouth bass or paddling your canoe on clean, clear, calm Howes Lake. You can also navigate your boat onto Verona Lake from Howes Lake.
We do not provide any water-craft, so you will have to bring your own. There is also an outfitter less than 20 minutes drive that rents kayaks and canoes.
For the swimmers, we are on a shallow bay off the main lake. It is a healthy lake with clear water and aquatic vegetation on the lake bottom. There is a gradual entry from the sandy beach for young children. Water depth from the end of the dock is about 4 to 4.5 feet deep (too shallow to dive head first from dock) and then 7 to 8 feet in the bay before dropping off in the main lake.
Note that the left pad of the double dock is for the guests at our other cottage next door.
There is a well equipped kitchen with fridge/freezer, oven & stovetop, microwave, dishes, glasses, cookware, Keurig K-cup coffee maker, toaster and kettle. Gas BBQ and dining table are out on the decks.
There is high speed internet and Bell satellite TV service. There is a Google Chromecast device for you to access your streaming services.
Indoor towels and bed linens/blankets are provided. Please bring your own outdoor towels and beach blankets.
Neither pets nor indoor smoking are permitted.
We had a very good production of maple syrup this year on the property and guests will receive a half-litre bottle of our syrup.
A generous amount of firewood is included. Additional firewood can be supplied for a modest price if required.
Water is UV treated, so is safe for drinking and cooking.
We also own the cottage next door https://www.cottagesincanada.com/34617 . Will offer a 10% discount if you wish to rent both cottages at once.
Location is less than 10 minutes from the village of Verona, with grocery stores, pharmacy, LCBO/Beer Store, restaurants and K&P Trail. Cottage is family owned with owners living less than 15 minutes away should any assistance be required.

| Our stay at 1243 Sugarbush cottage was fabulous in July 2024. We were 5 adults and it gave us lots of space to relax in the living room, cook in the kitchen and enjoy the patio. Lots of parking for 4 vehicles. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, dish clothes etc. and there is a grocery store nearby if needed. Muddy Waters restaurant also has great food. The beds were super cozy and the cottage is a rustic vibe which we found to be very relaxing. There is a beautiful fire pit down by the water and on rainy nights, there is lots of options to watch tv. The yard has some really nice flat space for yard games and the dock made it easy to launch our canoes. The bay was not great for swimming, it's only about 5ft deep and the weeds were 4ft high. It was okay to sit on a floaty and just get wet to cool down but know that your feet will definitely touch weeds and it doesn't get deeper for quite a ways out. Further down Desert Lake Rd. (10min) there is a campground with better public swimming. The weeds in the bay however, did make it fun for fishing! We caught a large bass while casting from the dock. John was a great host, he kept us well informed leading up to our stay and cottage was clean. We would be happy to book again.

Owner response: Thank you for your kind review Casey. I am so pleased you had a great time and look forward to hosting your family again!

| Before we booked the cottage we phoned John to make sure his properties would be a good fit. We had a nice chat and set expectations. When we arrived John welcomed us and gave us a rundown of the cottages. We kept an open line of communication in case we needed anything and he even came and restocked our firewood. We had the perfect weekend getaway!

Owner response: Thank you Matthew - It was super meeting you and your friends. You even gave me a lesson shooting a compound bow....was a first for me and really enjoyed it! Great to hear you had a lot of success with the fishing too. Hope to see you back in February for some ice fishing. Cheers, John

| We found the Sugar Bush Cottage to be exactly as advertised. The cottage was super clean, well maintained and ready for our arrival. John is extremely friendly and most concerned that we have an enjoyable stay. His personal attentiveness is refreshing and stands to be applauded. The water levels were low in the lake due to a lack of water - not one drop over our 10 days. We had a wonderful time at the cottage and will be back.

Owner response: Thank you Gerry! We are so glad you had an enjoyable stay and thank you for taking such great care of our place. You are right that we are experiencing quite a drought across our area and the lakes are very low this year. We cottage owners don't always hope for rain, but we sure could use some! John
