Welcome to Charlie's Retreat Cottage living!
This two-bedroom property is all about the water featuring one of the closest master bedroom/deck views on Lake Erie. The master bedroom is one of a very few on the block with a full-on view of Erie's sunrise in the am. Grab a coffee, your favourite book and watch it unfold!
We feature a modest kitchen/living room area, pine sunroom with yet another Lake Erie view. We have a comfy one room bedroom upstairs featuring a queen bed & tv. We hope you will become one our regular clients who return year after year.
We get asked this all the time and the answer is we have both types of coffee makers at the cottage- drip & Keurig.
ATTENTION ECO TOURISM CLIENTS. Enjoy an amazing, up close, view of Lake Erie on your way to newly formed HILLMAN BAY (approx. 30+ minutes) & Point Pelee (approx. 50+ minutes)! Lake Erie has recently cut its way into Hillman marsh forming what some locals refer to as the new Hillman Bay. Check out its small sand island and long spit jutting out all along the newly formed area.
CAPACITY IS 4 ADULT PEOPLE (MAXIMUM).
NOTE: CHECK-IN TIME IS 3PM AND CHECK OUT TIME IS 10AM.
Local beaches are just two minutes away (Wheatley harbour, Holiday harbour and our favourite ...Hillman Marsh North beach is only five minutes away.
Note: The new Ontario Waterfront cycling trail is located right out our front door.
Choose the right week this summer and you may enjoy some great perch fishing off the federal dock around the corner. We never really know when they'll show up but when they do it's a treat. You can also bring your boat and trailer and enjoy world class Rainbow, Walleye, Salmon and Perch fishing (seasonal). Boat launch is only a stone's throw away.
Don't have a boat? We'll arrange an experienced fishing charter to show you the time of your life on Lake Erie.
We are only a five minute ride from either Wheatley to the north or Hillman marsh to the south and fifteen minutes from renowned Point Pelee National Park (see map in photos). Wheatley Provincial Park, Two creeks Conservation Area & Kopegaron Woods are only five minutes away. Rondeau park is a short 40+ minute trip.
If wine is your thing then you already know we are the new wine "hot spot" in Ontario being home to dozens of thriving wineries (Lake Erie wine tour). We have had numerous new wineries starting up each and every year. We have six golf courses within fifteen minutes, Colasanti's tropical garden's is full of tropical plants, birds, animals and plenty of activities for the young and old to enjoy. Try shopping in Leamington's bustling business district. If you have an itchy finger try your luck at Chances gaming lounge (slots and bingo) which is a short fifteen minutes away in Leamington. The much larger Caesar's Windsor Casino (40 min drive) and Gateway's Chatham casino is 30 minutes away.

| We recently rented this gem of a cottage for three nights in Wheatley, ON! You want for nothing when you stay here! The cottage has every amenity you need. The hosts, Jeff and Wendy are fabulous to work with and answer all questions quickly. Wheatley is a charming town! The cottage is within a 15 minute drive to Point Pelee National Park (a must see for birdlovers and those who love the great outdoors). We will be back!!

| We stayed at Charlie's Retreat Cottage from August 1–8, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The cottage is beautifully appointed, with every comfort and convenience thoughtfully provided. You can tell a lot of care goes into making guests feel at home — from the well-equipped kitchen to the cozy indoor spaces and the inviting outdoor areas.
The location is unbeatable. Sitting right on the lake, the cottage offers peaceful views, and plenty of spots to relax and unwind. Whether you're enjoying your morning coffee outside or settling in for a quiet evening indoors, the whole place feels comfortable, calm, and welcoming.
The hosts were fantastic — always accessible and quick to respond to any questions or requests. Their friendliness and attentiveness made the stay even better, and it was reassuring to know help was just a message away.
Overall, Charlie's Retreat Cottage is a gem: comfortable, well-stocked, perfectly located, and hosted with genuine care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing lakeside getaway.

| Was a wonderful place and what a view- watching birds, tugboats and just the water glistening in the sunlight- so relaxing. Decorated with cute lake trinkets and the main wooden bed is so beautiful and unique. Communication with Jeff was easy- and the bottle of wine was nice surprize. My parents (86 and 83) and myself were down to visit family in Essex and the kids came down for a few hours and enjoyed playing on the rocks- with no hospital trips thankfully.Thank you for letting us enjoy your amazing place

| Our stay at Charlie's Retreat was amazing! My family found the cottage perfect for our vacation. We slept well in the comfortable beds, lounged around in the living room and outdoor areas, and prepared meals in the well equipped kitchen. The dining room provided views of the lake and up close birdwatching during our meals. The rear deck offered great views of the lake, bird and boat watching, and of course the amazing sunrise. We were able to view the meteor shower during our stay too. There was a Heat Warning for several days during our stay. We didn't notice as the air conditioning was strong and cold, keeping us very comfortable when we were home.
The cottage's location is perfect for exploring the area. We visited Point Pelee National Park three times, Hillman Marsh, Leamington, Wheatley and Amherstburg. We tried the local perch at Taylor's Fish and Chips and at Freddy's Restaurant. Both establishments are recommended. You have all the options available to you: Just relax in the cottage for a "lazy" day or visit the many local attractions.
The booking process and all communication with Jeff was prompt and courteous. He definitely made our stay worry free! We would not hesitate to stay here again!

| Charlie's Retreat made my family's Point Pelee vacation pretty close to perfect. The Beach House room provides great views of the lake, and the birds and butterflies at the feeders. It was a great place to open the windows and play games at night and have breakfast in the fresh air. Being on Lake Erie was incredible and relaxing, and the deck was was used daily with incredible views - sunrises, birds and even a lightning storm one evening that filled the skies!
The cottage was very clean, well maintained and had everything that we needed. It was exactly what we were hoping for: modern but cottage-ish
We visited the Park at least twice each of the 7 days that we were at the cottage and the drive was great each time. Having a cottage to return to made the trip very enjoyable and allowed a much more relaxed pace, with the BBQ and outdoor oven.
Thank you very much for allowing us to rent Charlie's Retreat and we hope to return!
