This is a comfortable, welcoming, quiet, 3-season waterfront family cottage. Located on scenic, fisherman-friendly Dog Lake, it is for rent by the week or month during the summer and fall. It is ideal for guests who prize a remote and wilderness ambiance with all the conveniences of home, yet near a wide variety of vacation and entertainment resources. There is ample room for a MAXIMUM of 8 guests ($50 addl. per person over 6 adults) in a well-equipped cottage with a detached bunky. We regret that we are unable to accommodate any pets, regardless of type, breed, age, behavior, or where they will be sleeping. Smoking is prohibited in any/ all of the buildings and on the deck and docks. All rentals are for a minimum of full week increments and begin on Saturday or Sunday at 5pm and end on the following Saturday or Sunday at 11 am. See the calendar for specific availability. Multi-week rentals are welcome.
Situated directly on the lake, the property features access via three steps down from the dock to a small private beach. The lake bottom is sandy and descends gradually so it's ideal for young swimmers! A canoe with life jackets and paddles will permit you to greet the spectacular sunrise (cottage faces east) over the lake or just enjoy the peaceful company of the loons that often float by in front of the cottage in early evening.
Fishing in Dog Lake is very good for bass, pike, slake, and lake trout and local fishing guides are available. You are welcome to bring your boat, launch it conveniently from nearby Battersea public launch, and moor it snugly beside our boathouse. As well as fishing, picnic trips to the nearby historic Rideau canal lock are popular with visitors. A fire pit in front of the cottage is great for s'mores and storytelling. This is a rural area, so you can expect to encounter "wild critters" such as chipmunks, mice, ants, bees, and an occasional skunk or porcupine. This was their home before it was ours, so we treat them with respect (except the ones who may have entered our house uninvited which we have promptly removed!). We have never seen any dangerous animals or poisonous snakes in the area.
Despite the private location, several good neighbors are nearby in case of emergency. If you crave social activity, the cottage is near the charming cities of historic Kingston to the southwest and Gananoque, the "Gateway to the Thousand Islands," to the southeast. Bustling Kingston is less than 30 minutes away by car (approx. 40km), and closer towns, Battersea (6km), Seeley's Bay (20km) and Glenburnie (30km), have grocery stores, an LCBO, and restaurant options. Gananaque is less than 45km away too, with a casino and access to boat tours of the 1000 Islands and Boldt Castle. In both cities there are numerous sightseeing tours; excellent fine and casual dining; cafes and bars, clubs, live theater in Gananoque, and music venues; antiquing and diverse shopping; and miscellaneous other family-friendly entertainment opportunities.There is world class golf less than 45 minutes away, and great local golf courses even closer (less than 25 minutes). Ottawa is a 2-hour car trip.
The property has been our family summer gathering place since 1969, so it is--and feels like-- a "home." It is a traditional cottage, updated with baseboard heating, modern plumbing, and ample electric service--a setting unique, personal, and picturesque. We pride ourselves on careful maintenance of our treasured cottage and preservation of many outdoor natural features. We welcome you to our home and if you are attracted by our description here, feel confident that you will be thrilled with your vacation and want to come again.
The main cottage contains 3 first-floor bedrooms, each with a double bed, and an open-plan second floor that has 3 three single beds and is an ideal space for children! A deck equipped with comfy chairs and an outdoor dining set is accessed through sliding glass doors from the main cottage sun room. A year-old gas grill with a generous propane supply and BBQ tools are kept outside the kitchen door. Additionally, there is a separate "little cottage/bunkie", about the size of a 2-car garage. That features a California king bed, a double bed, upholstered sofa and chairs and reading lamps, and sleeps up to four in privacy away from the main house. On rare muggy hot days, the main cottage features a floor-model window-vented air conditioner in the living room and the little cottage has a window air conditioner. Fans are available for each main room and each bedroom. On chilly days, turn on the electric baseboard heating or light a cozy fire in the living room's wood burning fireplace.
Many renters appreciate the original, refinished hardwood floors and clay tiled kitchen. Our upholstered living room and sunroom sofa and chairs are comfortable and in good condition, and the many pieces of cherry wood furniture have been in our family since the 1950s.The living room stone fireplace is original and draws well. The primary dining table(there is one in the kitchen too), located in an alcove overlooking the deck and the lake, seats 10. There are two full baths on the property, one in the main cottage contains a tub/shower combo, and the second has a glass-walled shower and is located in a quaintly upgraded outbuilding, formerly an ice house, behind the main house kitchen.
Pack just your swim suit, a sweater for cool evenings, and a toothbrush, because nearly everything else you'll need is here. You will arrive to just-cleaned living quarters; freshly made beds with sheets, blankets and pillows; and a bathroom closet containing fluffy laundered towels and a "starter" supply of paper towels and toilet tissue. A well-stocked first-aid kit, smoke alarms, and a fire extinguisher are provided for your safety. We love to entertain and cook, so the eat-in kitchen is well equipped with glassware; water filter (although the well water tastes good and is tested annually for drinking safety); sets for 12 of flatware and dishes; big and small pots and pans, bakeware, and fry pans; drip coffeemaker, toaster, blender, food processor, family-size electric pancake griddle, waffle iron, iron and ironing board, food prep devices (can opener, potato peeler, garlic chopper, citrus squeezer, strainers and collander, corkscrew and other bar equipment); serving bowls and serving pieces; dish-drying towels, placemats, and casual cloth napkins; and a microwave. The many pot holders are sturdy and crocheted by the owner, and she keeps all her high-quality knives sharp too!! The range and fridge are recently new and a full size clothes washer and dryer and a backyard clothesline round out the the comforts of home.

| Bob and Sue's cottage is a great place to spend a summer vacation. The lake is beautiful and not busy(tranquil). The details provided are exactly as stated. There is plenty of room for 8 and maybe even more. It is an older cottage with all the modern amenities. The beds are very comfortable. The deck is perfect in that it provides shade most of the day and it looks out onto the lake. We would recommend it. It is also close to Kingston for day trips. Hiking at Rock Dunder, dinning at The Opinion, handmade chocolate in Seely's Bay among others. You can also boat into the Rideau Canal 5 minutes away.

| We had an awesome time at this cottage. The owner does a great job showing pictures of the cottage's and gives a great description of them. Everything is as owner states. We stayed at this cottage for a week and we had an awesome time. Some feedback from us ;
- It easily sleeps eight people. - The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to make a full blown roast dinner and more. -The rooms are tastefully decorated and the cottage is very spacious and clean.We appreciated the cottage having a nice tv , wifi, landline ,kids play area and indoor board games,canoes, kyaks , etc. Exploring Dog lake by canoe was an awesome experience. You really get to enjoy nature at this cottage as a deer or two will welcome you upon your drive to the cottage. If you do not want to go any where you can just sit on the big deck with your family and just enjoy looking at the beautiful lake views and hearing the call of the loons. We had a great time roasting marshmallows and watching fireflies light up the area. Thanks, so much for allowing us to enjoy the cottage life by renting out your awesome cottage to us !!!
Kind Regards , Deborah - Florida
