* New - free day pass to Mikisew, Arrowhead, Algonquin and any Ont provincial park. Skate the ice trails/ snowshoe/ski trails at Arrowhead for free.
This original stone cottage suite is suitable for 2 people ONLY ( NO EXCEPTIONS) and is located on East Bay (Eagle Lake) approximately 10 km west of South River on paved roads, a 45 min. drive north of Huntsville and 45 minutes south of North Bay. (Approximately 3 hours north of Toronto). The nearby villages of Sundridge and South River have all the necessary conveniences (Foodland, LCBO, Beer Store, Home Hardware, gas stations and various eateries). It is close to Eagle Lake Golf Course, Eagle Lake Narrows Country Store and beach, Mikisew Provincial Park, Hockey Opportunity Camp, Coughlin's Riding Ranch, Copperhead Distillery, McLaren's Maple Syrup (in spring) and many cycling/walking trails (the Forgotten Trails). Arrowhead Provincial Park is 45 min. away and in winter has spectacular skating trails. Ski, snowshoeing and hiking trails are newly opened at Almaguin High School in South River and Mikisew. Sugar Dogs dog sledding is nearby. Algonquin Provincial Park is about 1 1/4 hrs. away.
The stone cottage suite is tucked away on 350 feet of lake frontage on 2 acres of wooded property, well back from the road which is on a dead end.
At this piece of paradise, you will enjoy beautiful sunsets or a family of loons from the upper or lower decks overlooking several hundred feet of water frontage. Have an afternoon siesta in the screened porch or a refreshing beverage in the 'courtyard' of perennial flowers. Explore the many islands in the bay by canoe or kayak. Fish for bass in the paddleboat. In the evening, roast marshmallows at the fire pit by the water's edge or enjoy a fire in the courtyard. Swim in the quiet, clean bay with entry to sand bottom frontage. (A canoe, paddleboat, and 2 lake kayaks are available for use, along with life jackets and paddles) Please note: There are approximately 30 stone steps down to the water from the upper deck. The cottage is about 65 feet from the water's edge. Some mobility is required.
Winter is also a tranquil and peaceful wonderland. Enjoy clear, starry nights, deer crossing the bay, snowshoeing or cross country skiing from your back door. Snowshoes, a kicksled and a firepit are available for your use. Ski and snowshoe trails are also located 8 minutes away in Mikisew. In March or April, take a visit to a local sugar shack and watch the production of maple syrup. Check out the Copperhead Distillery in Sundridge. Sugar Dogs Dogsledding is outside of Sundridge.
This cozy and quaint cottage is one of the original cottages on Eagle Lake built in the 1930's and has been completely renovated but its rustic charm has been preserved. The suite, which is suitable for two people only, has a living/dining room with fireplace, bedroom (double bed), 3 piece bathroom (shower only, no bath), and a small kitchenette with a full sized fridge, toaster oven, kettle, microwave, induction hot plate, coffeemaker, slow cooker and all necessary equipment but there is no full size oven. Another double bed is located in the loft, accessible by a ladder (see photo). A barbeque and lawn furniture are available. Internet, somewhat limited , is included and cell service is reliable. Towels, linens, toilet paper, firewood and propane are provided. Drinking water is supplied. The main source of heat is a wood stove with propane/heat pump furnace back up. I appreciate guests keeping the wood fire going primarily as propane is very expensive. I supply a daily supply of wood and happy to help guests get a fire going. The suite is for 2 people only. Sorry no guests, no pets and no smoking. The cottage is not suitable for children as there is a wood stove, loft ladder, rocky shoreline.
The cottage is situated well back from a dead end road. In the winter, an all wheel drive vehicle with snowtires is recommended or park at the top of the driveway. The driveway is about 200 metres and a beautiful walk overlooking the lake. Sleds are available to transport gear. Usually I am able to help transport your belongings with my AWD vehicle depending on the snow conditions and your arrival time.
It is adjacent (attached) to the owner's home (separated by the cottage's 12 inch stone wall.) It is very private and quiet. My guests are almost exclusively couples wishing privacy and as you can see from the many reviews, they are delighted. Some mobility is required as there are stone steps to the water.

| Had a great stay at Stone Cottage! The cottage was comfortable and cozy with easy access to the lake and water activities. We enjoyed the indoor wood fireplace on cool rainy days. Superhost Elizabeth also helped us access great hiking in the area, which was an added bonus!

Owner response: I greatly appreciate your positive review. Happy that you had a good stay despite the coolish, rainy days and that you managed to take in some local sites. I hope that you'll return!

| My husband and I stayed at Liz's beautiful stone cottage for our 29th anniversary. It was enchanting. The sunsets were amazing. We loved watching the ducks and geese, quiet nights spent reading and listening to the water from the screened in porch at night. Water is clear and has a sandy bottom. Great for swimming. We especially loved the porch and watching all the wildlife. Cottage is so cute and furniture is comfortable. Had everything we needed. We ventured into town to the look out, went to Double Decker for the best milkshakes and French fries but our favourite outing was Copperhead Distillery. Checked out mikisew provincial park for a hike as well. Beautiful scenery. We would definitely return if Liz would have us :)

| We loved our stay at the Stone Cottage! The lake view was gorgeous and so serene. We enjoyed using the kayaks to explore the lake and really took advantage of the covered porch in the evenings to listen to the loon calls. Elizabeth was a fantastic host and made sure we had everything we needed while also providing information about the area and different things to do. We hope to be back one day to enjoy the cottage all over again! Thanks, Elizabeth!

| This was what we needed! We were also very lucky with the weather and clean air. Toronto had the worst pollution and here the air was of the highest quality. Very spacious place for two people, very quite, very good fishing, nice boating/kayaking. "Unfortunately" there is wi-fi available, so you would not be totally disconnected from the civilization and the news :-) .

Owner response: I can always disconnect the wi-fi! Ha ha! So pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I hope to see you both again!
