Waterfront

Solklint is located on one of the 30,000 islands in the northern archipelago on Georgian Bay. The expansive cottage is great for a large or extended family or a couple of families to share. Bookings are a minimum of weekly from Saturday to Saturday. We now offer Starlink high-speed internet access.

Guest Access

The cottage is entirely yours, along with the dock, rocks, beach, water and island trails. Half of this 10 acre island belongs to the cottage. The other half is uninhabited. Parking, boat rental and water taxis are available at Desmasdon's Marina, North Shore Road.

The Neighbourhood

While remote, it's only 10 minutes away by boat from a grocery/hardware store, LCBO, coffee and ice cream shop, and take-out fish and chips. A canoe and kayaks come with the cottage and can be used to explore the many quiet channels of this famously scenic area. Fish for bass, pickerel, pike and musky.

Getting Around

There is space for two boats at the dock, if you have your own. It's about a half hour paddle from Payne's Marina, if you're coming by canoe or kayak. You can also get a water taxi from one of the marina's.

Other Things to Note

The cottage also comes with a canoe and a couple of kayaks for exploring the islands and waterways.

Georgian Bay generously provides all the water for the cottage plumbing system, through a submersible pump marked by a buoy in the bay out front of the cottage. All the water taps, toilets and shower are supplied directly from the bay. All of the incoming water in the cottage passes through two particulate filters, a carbon filter and a UV sterilizer, and is safe to drink.

This cottage was beautiful...From the breathtaking views standing on the dock or in the living room to the spacious interior - The photos shown do not do it justice. I went to this cottage with a group of my friends and we swam in the lake, went fishing, explored the island and went jet skiing. The cottage is in good condition and can comfortably fit 10-12 adults. It was a fantastic experience and I would definitely go again next summer!

A group of my friends and I rented this cottage for labour day long weekend. All I can say is that we had one of the most best weekends staying at David & Ellens cottage. From the beginning of the rental experience, to the time it came to say goodbye, everything was commendable. Ellen and David were just a phone call away and very easy to communicate with. We came in on Friday evening, and all the water taxis were no longer running at the marina. David generously gave his time and made 2 trips to take our group to the cottage, for which we are still extremely grateful for. The cottage itself, is an absolute beauty!! We had a great time sitting in the living room watching the gorgeous views from the window, as well as at the dock, where you could catch the perfect rays from the sun and enjoy swimming, as well as going in the kayaks and canoe that Ellen and David left for us. Life jackets were also provided. Everything in the cottage was also in great condition, and also well kept and very clean. All in all, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great weekend away from the city!!! We definitely would return again.

Lovely spot. Great fishing right off the dock. good swimming. Comfy old cottage. Clean and good, and in line with what a notion of a nice cottage was when I was a kid, as opposed to the ultra modern hd appliances sort of place where I can't actually relax. There have been no cats at this cottage which is important for the allergenized but dogs, yes, are permitted. The owners were straightforward and honest and helpful.

Just returned from a three night stay at the Solklint. We were 11 adults and 3 kids and a pup. The cottage was spacious, clean and the views were out of this world.
Ellen was very responsive through out the trip, and made extra provisions for us such as offering up her parking spot at the marina.
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen and BBQ and the washrooms were clean and in good condition.
We walked a trail, went fishing, kayaking and swimming. The water was crystal clear.
The living room was huge and easily accommodated us every evening for dinner and to play board games.
We had a relaxing and fun time! Can't wait to go back for a longer stay next time!

Solklint was the best way we could have imagined to spend our Victoria Day weekend. From the panoramic view in the living room, to the calm fire pit by the water, every inch of the island was phenomenal. The cottage is clean, well-maintained, and there are plenty of activities to do throughout the day. From kayaking/canoeing through the surrounding islands, to taking a hike and exploring all sides of the island, to taking the boat out fishing - there was never a dull moment! The only regret we had was not staying for a full week. On top of all that, David and Ellen were fantastic hosts, driving us to the cottage, showing us around, and providing the warmest of welcomes. 10/10.
