Fully Booked for 2025. Have a great summer! ____________ Welcome to The Wilson Family Cottage on Lower Buckhorn Lake in the beautiful Kawarthas! This traditional family cottage lives like a resort compound with multiple unique and individual indoor and outdoor living areas. Enjoy the natural landscape of pine trees and exposed Canadian shield as you relax with family and friends. The cottage is situated on Lower Buckhorn Lake at the mouth of the Deer Bay river. The gentle flow of the river provides for great fishing right off the dock! Explore the Trent Severn Waterway and the Kawartha Lakes with access to hundreds of kilometres of pristine boating, world-class fishing, and epic canoe and kayaking. The cottage has parking for six - driveway, roadside, and overflow across the road. It's hidden from the road and is accessed via a staircase over a large section of the exposed Canadian shield. It boasts a two-bedroom main cottage with two bunkies. The main cottage has a beautifully renovated modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances, including a microwave and full dishwasher. The living room/ dining room has indoor dining and a stocked digital entertainment system with hundreds of movies and TV shows, a 46" flat-screen TV, speakers with a record player and an audio/headphone connection - Bring your own vinyl!
Both bedrooms have queen beds and large closets. The bathroom has a spacious stand-up shower. The cottage has lake-fed UV-treated drinkable water and is on a septic system. The system works wonderfully, but as with any cottage water system, it is fragile and must be treated with respect.
Arguably, one of the highlights of the property is the Great Kawartha Room - a 310-square-foot screened room with a cathedral ceiling that is attached to the main cottage. The Great Room provides an incredible vista of the surrounding property and gives the illusion of being high up in a tree fort. It can provide shelter from the extreme elements while allowing in the subtle ones. Depending on the time of day, it provides a shady oasis or a sun-soaked evening dining space. The massive ten-seat harvest table was handmade by our family, and like many great tables, it is the premier meeting place for quality time together.
The upper bunkie is perfect for kids and teenagers as it has two single beds, a DVD player, PS3 and Nintendo 64. The lower bunkie is romantically situated on the dock and is equipped with a double bed and windows that overlook the water. Both bunkies have hydro and space heaters.
Relax dockside and soak in the sun! Enjoy fresh, deep water swimming & fishing. Dock your own canoes, kayaks or small watercraft.
Enjoy the upper deck and patio set that overlooks the water and have an evening campfire in the built-in pit!
Explore the local area and discover some of the most beautiful parts of Ontario. Hiking, biking, caves, golf, tourist attractions, antiques and galleries dominate the Kawartha region! Everything is truly at your fingertips for an amazing vacation!
Please contact me with any questions or potential bookings outside the framework of the renting fee schedule - I will do my absolute best to accommodate you! :)

| We had such a great stay at this cottage! Rain or shine, there was always something to do—kayaking, swimming, hiking, or cozying up with movies, books, and board games. The main cottage is well equipped with a full kitchen, comfy bedrooms, and a large Muskoka room that was perfect for family meals and game nights. The bunkies added extra charm: one is a kid's paradise with DVDs and video games, while the other sits right on the water for a peaceful sleep. The location is fantastic—just five minutes to Buckhorn and close to tons of hiking trails and a natural lazy river for tubing (Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park). Josh was a wonderful, communicative host. We'd highly recommend this cottage and would love to return!

| 2nd stay at the cottage. It's literally perfection. Comfortable and spacious with 2 bunkies perfect for kids and family. Loads of board games, books, DVDs, video games, Kayaks and canoes available for use and an incredible spot for swimming that is out of the way of the main lake.
The huge sunroom make rainy days pretty perfect, and it's an amazing spot for meals and games.
Josh and family have clearly put in effort and love to ensure this cottage is kept beautifully- and that effort is evident everywhere you look
Look forward to a longer stay next summer - and again for our fall Muskie fishing trip!

| The photos do not do this cottage justice! We stayed here for a short, fall fishing trip and fell in love as soon as we stepped foot onto the property. The cottage was very clean and it was clear that it was very loved and well taken care of by the owner. Josh was very responsive to any questions I had before and during our stay. The process was very easy and very enjoyable. We loved our stay so much that the day we got there we already were planning to return. If you decide to stay at the Wilson family cottage I promise you won't be disappointed and will have a great time.
Thank you Josh for letting us stay at your wonderful cottage, we hope to be back soon!

| We have rented cottages all over the kawarthas over the past several years. The Wilson Family Cottage was the absolute best value we have seen in a 1 week rental. As a host Josh is fantastic and will respond right away to questions. Highly recommended.

| well I believe this cottage should be in Cottage Life Magazine. Stayed there a few years back for the month June. (regret not leaving a review sooner)Have three son's living about 30 minus away with the one 40 minutes. Grandchildren had an amazing time. the bunkies were a hit, with all the electronics avail to play on for young kids. The month stay for us Grandparent at age 75 was wonderful. Peaceful for sure. W had a flying squirrel visit us, Pileated WoodPecker nesting farther down the road. Lots of salamanders and other critters underneath various logs and boulders along our walks. At the water front, about 100 yards north a small waterfall proved fun for the children and with all the watercraft supplies made available, the river was joy for all to play on. only about 150 yards to the lake and about only 50/60 yards wide Neighbours What neighbours, they are close but hard to observe them as they a hidden behind the Canadian Shield. yes easy to approach and talk to but mostly out os site. Across the 50 yards of river lives permanent residents if not retired close to, friendly. Now the cottage, wow, so canadiana and comfortable. huge family 10 feet long and so comfortable. All modern appliances and well kept for sure. overall 5 star accomadattion

Owner response: John, it's been such a pleasure hosting you for a few years in a row. I truly can't express how much I love hearing stories from guests who love the place as much as me and my family and friends! It makes this whole experience so worthwhile! Thanks for leaving some books behind on the bookshelf and for signing off on them. It contributes to what will become our history and our traditions. All the best and hope to have you back one day! | |
