The Cottage

Big Straggle Lake offers year-round fishing, great swimming, and we have a rowboat and two pedal boats that you may use to explore the lake, several islands, and even a hidden passageway to Little Straggle Lake. Our dock is large enough for sunning yourself on hot days or just hanging out with friends on the chairs and picnic table. There is a fire pit overlooking the lake with plenty of seating to host your party (and firewood at the ready), and a grassy area beside the cottage on which lawn games can be enjoyed. We have a full size kitchen with a double sink, microwave, stove/oven, full-sized fridge, and BBQ for you to enjoy. At your disposal are many other personal appliances such as a coffee maker, toaster, Actifry (alternative to deep-fryer), George Foreman grill, and blender. There is plenty of storage space for whatever you bring up as well. The living room has a widescreen TV, Satellite television, DVD player, and VCR. There is a small TV, DVD player, and VCR in the first bedroom (the one with four bunk beds). We have lots of VHS tapes and a few DVDs to watch, books to read, and games to play, should you find yourself stuck inside on a rainy day or need something to do in the evening. In the living room, there is also a wood-burning stove to which you may curl up to after you build yourself a fire in the evening.

The following are some tips for enjoying our cottage:

Linens & Towels - Please bring your own linens (or sleeping bags) & towels. Supplied for you at the cottage are pillows, comforters, duvets & duvet covers, extra blankets, and pillow & mattress protectors.

Great getaway! Clean and spacious with all the amenities you could need. The drive in from the main road is long enough that you feel like you're really "off the beaten track". Darryl has things well organized, so everything was seamless - booking, arrival, departure and everything in between. Wonderful way to mark the unofficial end of summer!

We've rented a fair number of cottages, and this is our favorite, bar none. Whether on the deck or cosy living room, you'll enjoy a beautiful view of the lake. Best fire pit location on the lake - & you'll be spending lots of time there. The cottage is well designed and has everything you need and the hosts are wonderful & accessible. You can walk or run the cottage roads or go for a hike on the nearby trails. Our young daughter loved the bunk bed room, library of Disney movies and Nintendo for rainy days and making friends and memories with other children on the lake. Thank you Darryl & family for being so welcoming and wonderful.

Just had another great stay at Darryl's lovely cottage. Communication with the host was always very good. The cottage itself is well equipped (kitchen utensils, pots and pans, etc). Great view of the lake and lots of seating options both in and out. Loved kayaking around the lake and my husband enjoyed taking the row boat out to fish. Great selection of movies to watch on the large screen tv as well as board games. The kids love the room with two bunk beds. Enjoyed watching the chipmunks, frogs, and dragonflies. Definitely planning a repeat visit. Thanks again!!!

We rented Darryl's cottage for 3 nights with my in-laws and our daughter. The entire exprience was quite pleasant. Here're things I liked:

- It got a splendid view. The opening in the trees around the cottage gives it a great view across the lake, yet some privacy as well. Combined with the fall colors we just think it'd be difficult to beat.

- Plenty of things to do. You can go boating, hiking, barbeque, or even watching DVDs which we actually did.

- The equipments/appliances provided are sufficient and practical.

Things that could be better:
Garbage collection. The landfall site where we dumped the garbage was a bit far. Not a big deal if you are heading south on 10 anyways. But it's a detour if you want to head north to Algonquin.

6 adults enjoyed a very peaceful and relaxing "Big Chill" week. The cottage is well oriented (sun) and there is a splendid view of the lake (which is clean and clear) and star gazing from the dock was spectacular. Plenty of room, the beds and furniture were very comfy. We enjoyed some great fishing not far from the dock. Lots of paddles and life jackets for the small fleet of recreational water craft. The water is shallow at the dock and there is a raft for swimming just off shore. The owners are very helpful and respond quickly. This is a great retreat.
