Peninsula Lake, Huntsville, Ontario
Hidden away on the shores of Peninsula Lake, close to Algonquin Park and a short drive to Huntsville, this absolute gem of a cottage will quickly become your family's favourite place to recharge and enjoy the natural beauty of Muskoka.
Idlehour cottage is a peaceful spot with a wonderful view of the lake and 460 feet of waterfront. The deck off the kitchen provides lovely morning sun, while a second deck faces the lakeside - a place to find a little shade in the heat of the day, when you need it most. Or, if you prefer, the spacious screened porch has ample room for conversation or to find some alone time and enjoy a summer read, play board games, or relish a casual meal while watching the sun sparkle and bounce off the surface of the lake.
Idlehour has four spacious bedrooms; three on the upper level and one on the lower level. There is a queen bed in three of the four rooms and the forth bedroom has two singles.
Lovingly finished throughout in knotty pine, there is plenty of seating area in the living room. A large pine harvest dining room table sits next to the large windows looking out to the lake. A fully-equipped kitchen runs off the dining room with a sliding door leading to the front deck. There is one four-piece bathroom on the main level.
Idle away the hours taking in the beauty of the natural surroundings at this idyllic, traditional cottage with upgrades. If you need to check in with friends or do a little work on the side, the cottage has reliable unlimited WIFI.
The lower level of the cottage with access to the front yard, has a second space for relaxing, equipped with a 40-inch LED television, BluRay DVD and dartboard. There is a newly renovated three-piece bathroom.
The cottage property slopes gently on the lakeside, with a footpath and newly added stone stairs leading to the water. There is plenty of room for games on the south side where there is also a large fire pit and lots of seating - or go exploring among the mature mixed forest on either side of the cottage. A winding footpath to the lake gives access to the shoreline with its shallow walkout and sand and pebble bottom. A seating platform and dock extend a full 50 feet out into the lake. A community walking trail goes through the cottage property along the shoreline.
A canoe and a fishing boat will get you out on the water, exploring the lake(s). A large boat launching area is available nearby at Tally Ho Resort across the lake. Peninsula Lake connects to a chain of lakes that provide a whopping 70 kms of boating on Fairy Lake (Huntsville Marina) , Lake Vernon, and through a set of locks to the Muskoka River and Mary Lake. A short drive from Idlehour Cottage will take you to Lake of Bays if you would like to launch your boat at the South Portage Access and explore what Lake of Bays has to offer.
A picturesque half hour drive gets you to west gate of Algonquin Park with lots of hiking trails, beaches for swimming, and a Nature Centre. You can explore the nearby historical site of the old Portage Flyer Train that used to run overland to Lake of Bays. The difficult part of your holiday will be choosing from the many activities that will be available to you!
