Snow is falling, the fireplace is crackling, and Black Donald Lake has traded its summer sparkle for a hushed, snow-covered stillness. This is winter at Graphite Bay Cottage — the season for slow mornings, ski days at Calabogie Peaks, and nights spent by the fire place. Just 18 km from Calabogie Peaks Resort, you're minutes from downhill skiing, cross-country trails, and a hill full of hot chocolate and après-ski energy. Right from the cottage, explore snowshoeing routes at Eagle's Nest and Blueberry Hill, head out on the snowmobile trails that lace through the Greater Madawaska region, or drop a line through the ice on Black Donald Lake for a morning of ice fishing. Kids (and adults) will love an afternoon of tobogganing on the property, and on a clear night, the dark skies over the lake have been known to put on a starry show. When you're ready for a change of scenery, Renfrew is a short drive away for lunch and some exploring of its own. The Hideaway sleeps six comfortably across three bedrooms — two with king beds and one with twin beds — and two full bathrooms. The open kitchen, island, dining room, and living room make it easy for the whole group to gather, and the wood-burning fireplace and wood stove keep things cozy no matter how cold it gets outside. The walkout lower level, with lake views, is a great spot for games or curling up with a book. A high-capacity washer and dryer, Wi-Fi, Chromecast (stream Netflix, Prime, or Crave), and a DVD player round out the comforts — and with our onsite Generac generator, a winter power outage won't put a damper on your stay. Step outside to the flagstone patio and fireplace overlooking the frozen lake — a perfect spot for a fire under the stars after a day on the slopes or trails. The cottage is fully equipped for young children, with high chairs, pack and plays, cribs, and baby gates available on request. Well-behaved pets are welcome too (pet fee applies).

The cottage is 18 Km away from Calabogie Peaks, with lots of access to downhill and cross country skiing in the winter and numerous hiking trails in the summer and fall. Black Donald Lake offers a great spot to enjoy water sports/activities and fishing. It is a short drive to some excellent white water rafting and bouldering sites. + VIEW MORE - COLLAPSE Note: Black Donald/ Centennial Lake is a beautiful 12 kilometer reservoir lake. It is part of the Madawaska River System that flows from Algonquin Park to the Ottawa River. The lake was created by the construction of the Mountain Chute Generating Station and dam in 1965-1966. Black Donald Lake subsumed the previous White Fish Lake and flooded the former mining community of Black Donald Mines, whose graphite mine by then was exhausted. | We had a wonderful stay at this cottage, it exceeded our expectations. It was clean, well-equipped, spacious enough for all five of us plus a dog, the beds were comfortable, and the water pressure in the shower was perfect.
The owners also provide a helpful book/binder with information about the cottage and instructions. Having a washer, dryer, and dishwasher were also a bonus, as was the screened in sitting area.
It was peaceful, the neighbours were quiet, and we were pleasantly surprised at how few motorized boats and sea-doos went past this property.
The water at the dock was deep and clear (exactly how we like it) and the other water entry had stairs that led to a shallow area.
We had an issue with the coffee maker the first morning and it was quickly replaced when we advised the owner.
Note that the check-in time is 4 pm, not 1 pm as indicated on this page and check-out was 10 am, not 11 am.
We left with wonderful memories and would highly recommend this cottage rental for families.

| The pictures are not as good as the real thing. We had a great two weeks, relaxing and enjoying the views from the dock, flagstone patio and deck. Alexis is great and was quick to reply to any questions we had. They have two entry points to the water, which makes it easy to jump in from the dock or walk in from the stairs. Water is pretty clear, could see down 6 - 8 ft, so bring your swim fins and mask. The cottage is very nicely furnished; all the sitting areas and beds are in great shape. The appliances are all in good condition, bbq was clean and worked well. Lots of space in the cottage, living room and kitchen in one big area and the dining room separate. Big finished lower area for games, cards or just relaxing. Washrooms and showers are very modern and lots of pressure. Wifi works well. We rented inflatable paddle boards from Mad River Paddle Co and they were great to deal with. Wonderful hiking trails in the area, and the road isn't busy, so can hike/bike near the cottage. Will certainly rent here again.

| We had a wonderful, mini, winter vacation at Graphite Bay. A perfect destination to celebrate a family gathering. We enjoyed the skiing, both downhill and xcountry, all with in a 15 min drive from the cottage. The cottage had everything we needed and was very comfortable. All questions were answered quickly and with detail. Alexis was accommodating and helpful in every manor. Many fond memories were made here at Graphite Bay cottage. I would recommend this cottage and look forward to the opportunity of booking a future summer vacation.

| This is a beautiful cottage on Black Donald Lake. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could ask for. The beds are very comfortable and the bedrooms are spacious even with the king size beds. The waterfront area is a great place to spend those warm sunny days and the deck is lovely for enjoying barbecued meals. Being able to bring our dog with us was an added bonus. The owners are super friendly and very approachable. It is definitely a 5+ and we look forward to returning.

| Cottage is wonderful. Water and firepit are awesome. Kitchen is very well appointed. Lots of huge windows with waterfront views. The two main bedrooms are excellence, the smaller bedroom and basement mattresses are not ideal for anyone with back issues / or are of bigger builds.
Can't recommend enough!
