If you're looking to rent a cottage in Ontario, one of the first things you usually decide on is the area. Many people opt for somewhere in Muskoka, while others love the Haliburton Highlands. If you can't decide, we think Bird Lake Escape might be for you as it sits close to the border of these two well known destinations. Bird Lake is a well hidden, clean lake located 30 minutes east of Bracebridge.
Bird Lake Escape is a wonderful Muskoka cottage rental, delightfully restored in recent times, providing a traditional cottage feel and an up to date feel. Adjacent to the entry way, you'll find one of the star attractions of this cottage - the screened in sun room, overlooking the lake and providing an exquisite shelter from the sun, rain and any insects that may have their sights set on you. You might spend a great deal of time here reading a book, playing cards or just relaxing with a coffee, but let's explore the rest of the cottage. The door opens into the living area. In one corner there is a fireplace for cooler evenings, and the main living room offers comfortable surroundings, a view over the lake and a TV for family movie nights. The kitchen and dining areas are adjacent to these, and upstairs you'll find 3 very comfortable bedrooms. The septic and water systems limit occupancy of this property to 6 people, so your sleeping options are many and varied.
Facing the lake, there is a full length deck - perfect for relaxing, barbecuing, and soaking up rays. A stone staircase takes you to lakeside and the dock. The water off the dock is clear and deeper for excellent swimming. There is a small area with a hard packed sandy entry in which non-swimmers can enjoy the water as well. An ample supply of watercraft lets your group explore the lake in a variety of ways, and a fire pit lets you close out the days with songs and stories.
Bracebridge has all you will need in terms of supplies - groceries, restaurants, shopping - Gravenhurst, just to the south, offers a similar array, plus the shops on Muskoka Bay. Bird Lake Escape is perfect for the family looking to recapture the golden age of the Muskoka cottage - we hope it will be the right choice for you!

Waterfront
A set of stone stairs takes you to the water's edge and the dock. The water is 4-5 feet deep off the dock and there is a swim ladder here. There are very few, if any weeds, and the water is generally clear. Closer to the shore, between the land and the arm of the dock, is a shallow, hard packed sandy area, good for launching the canoe or for waders and younger children to play.
Trivia
The nearby town of Bracebridge was named after the novel, Bracebridge Hall, by Washington Irving, that the postmaster in charge of naming towns was reading at the time. The same novel also provided the name for nearby Gravenhurst (Source - Wikipedia).
