Stayed here last week of July. Absolutely fantastic preserved cottage with absolutely everything you need. Highly recommend!

Owner response:
Hi Jane! We are so happy that you enjoyed the cottage. You & Robin were a lovely couple that we would welcome back any time. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and thanks again for the great review!

The cabin at Nageek lake is small as mentioned in the listing but very comfortable for two people and nicely finished inside with pine walls. It was clean and each of the beds had a lovely quilted cover. The kitchen was well equipped and there is a vintage GE stove, perhaps from the 1950s, still in good working order.

However, the listing title says "private log cabin," so we were surprised and dismayed to see another cottage less than 40 feet away, without a tree or bush between us to provide even the illusion of privacy. Had we known this we would not have rented it. We were fortunate that the family staying there was quiet.

Also, the grounds around the cabin looked neglected. There were cigarette butts on the dock and at the picnic table, and broken kids' toys around the fire pit. When we went to use the BBQ we found the inside was rusted out, barely usable.

Still, we enjoyed exploring the area and going for long swims, listening to the many loons calling to each other on the lake. Next year we plan to come back to explore more of the Madawaska River.

Unfortunately, for the reasons above we can only give this property three stars, and for anyone who values privacy we don't recommend it.

Owner response:
Hi Gillian. We are happy you were pleased with the cabin, the area, the swimming and of course the loons. The quilted covers certainly add a nice touch, and the vintage stove is quite iconic.

It is unfortunate you did not find the cabin as private as you would have liked. We make sure that the photos on the site clearly show the proximity of the neighbours. With 1/2 an acre of property to yourself, a private cabin, private water access, private dock, fire pit and beach area, we feel that validates it being described as "private" in our description. It sounds like the quiet family next door did not cause any issues.

We appreciate you pointing out the disaray of the grounds. Following our regular cleaner retiring, we had hired a replacement. Initially she was thorough, but upon receiving some negative feedback, we immediately hired someone new. We have taken great pride in providing a wonderful experience for guests of the cabin over the past 8 seasons. We will not employ anyone who does not hold up our high standards for both the cleaning of the cabin and the grounds.

Next time we recommend that you communicate to management of your rental if there is a problem with something like a BBQ. We were not aware of the issue until your departure but would have been happy to provide a new or replacement BBQ during your stay.

Thank you for your review, Gillian. The Madawaska River is an absolutely endless heaven to enjoy and explore. We know you will find even more amazing things to do in the area next year. Enjoy the rest or your summer.

My wife and I stayed with our 3 children and absolutely loved it. The cozy cabin space had everything needed for relaxation and meal times. The outside landscape was amazing. Plenty of space for games like badminton, ladderball, washer toss, etc. The kids and dogs really swimming in the sandy bottom lakeshore. The waterfront firepit made for some epic s'more making under the stary sky. We really enjoyed our stay and made some great memories. Would definitely stay again. Fishing on the madawaska river is great also. Caught pike and bass while there. Very clean clear water.

Great little spot on Negeek Lake. Quaint log cabin with all the right touches. Relaxing and close enough to all the amenities. Had a great week!

We rented this cabin for a week in September and really enjoyed our stay! The cottage is clean and the wooden interior is very cozy. The kitchen is well equipped, with plenty of utensils and kitchen tools. There are also some games available, like Uno and Jenga.

The surroundings were very pretty. There are a lot of pine trees, the water is clean, and the street the cabin is on is very quiet. We saw loons pretty frequently, and hearing them in the evening and early morning is really cool. The entrance to the lake is sandy and shallow, getting gradually deeper, which is perfect for docking kayaks or boats and swimming. The dock is well maintained and there is a rowboat provided along with lifejackets, which is great for going out on the lake. There is also a rental in Barry's Bay that delivers right to the cottage, that we got kayaks from. There is a fire pit by the water and chairs by it as well as a picnic table, which is great for enjoying meals outdoors.

The owners were very responsive and helpful. We had a great time here and would love to come again!
