Every year, the town of Coldwater, Ontario hosts its Steampunk Festival. Those of you familiar with the term steampunk are probably familiar with the festival itself. For those that aren't, steampunk is an eclectic mix of futuristic Victorian (that's right, we said "futuristic Victorian") fashion and technology (think steam powered computers or clothing that incorporates clockwork technology). A visit to this festival inspired the owners of this Six-Mile Lake cottage to be creative in their decor. The result, predictably, is Steampunk Cottage - an elegant, intriguing and somewhat whimsical oasis tucked away on a quiet bay of Six Mile Lake.
The first thing you will be aware of when you arrive is that Steampunk Cottage boasts a full length screened-in sunroom overlooking the waterfront. Complete with a generous selection of furniture, it would be the envy of many a cottage. Fair weather days will likely see several members of your group enjoying a game, a puzzle, a drink, some tunes - or maybe just pure relaxation - in this area. But let's step inside and have a look around.
The kitchen is located right near the main entry, which makes accessing the BBQ a cinch for the family grill master. Also on this level are the living room and family room areas, the former with a wonderful cosy feel complete with wood stove, the latter with a big screen TV. The master bed and main bath are also on this floor, with the master having a view down the lake through the walkout doors to another deck.
A sitting area at the top of the staircase provides a retreat area to enjoy a good book or the view, and there are 3 more bedrooms on this level - each with their own unique set of decor. There is also a bathroom on this level and as an added bonus, a laundry facility.
Six Mile Lake is a great spot for nature enthusiasts to explore by kayak or canoe - and the 2 kayaks and canoe provided with this cottage are the perfect selection. There are some weeds closer to shore, but a walk out the jetty to the dock and swimming platform gives swimmers and loungers their place in the sun.
Your cottage vacation should be unique, and it should still encompass everything we love about cottaging. We think you'll have a holiday for the ages at Steampunk!

Waterfront
There is a gentle slope down to the water with a pretty stone path and flower beds. The generous waterfront area is a mix of exposed granite, grass, clusters of spruce trees, silver birch and maple trees. It is still quite open giving you plenty of options, sun or shade, to enjoy the views. There is an ample supply of outdoor furniture and a fixed deck right at the water's edge next to a jetty that takes you out to a floating dock. Situated in Mary's Bay adjoining Six Mile Lake, the cottage is very private overlooking only one neighbour situated high up on the opposite side of the bay. Boat traffic is minimal except for the odd explorer or angler. The bay is filled with wildlife, from visiting swans, loons, frogs and turtles. The water in the bay is warm being only about 4 feet deep, it has lily pads and a soft clay base. The water laps up against the shore a few inches deep and gently deepens. The owners have laid some flat flagstones in the water next to the jetty so as to make a fun paddling area for the small ones and it gives a nice base for getting in and out of watercraft. At the end of the jetty is a 100 square foot square floating dock and ladder, around which the owners have deepened the water and cleared the lily pads to provide an area for jumping in and playing until its time to dry off in the sun.
