"Breathtaking", "Spectacular" and "Stunning" are the words many guests have used to describe the views and sunsets experienced during their stay at Big Sky Sea Shanty. This elevated cottage overlooks the scenic Northumberland Strait along Nova Scotia's picturesque Sunrise Trail. Enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding ocean and gorgeous sunsets from the hot tub or fire pit ! Look no further, you have found your perfect vacation getaway. Begin your day strolling out on the large deck with your morning coffee. Look up and see bald eagles and hawks soaring in the sky above. Then gaze out on the water to see whales swimming in the ocean below. After your coffee you may want to go for a leisurely walk along the sea shore or check out the many hiking trails in the area. Of course beaches are plentiful in this region of Nova Scotia. Livingstone Cove beach is just two minutes away, and there are many other beautiful beaches close by. How about a day trip to check out this beautiful region? The 2 most popular destinations in the area are there for you to explore. Visit the World Famous Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island or take the ferry to Prince Edward Island. You may simply choose to spend the day at your vacation cottage relaxing by reading a book, listening to music or scanning the ocean for seabirds, whales and fishing boats. There is a barbecue available on the back deck. There are two take-out restaurants close by : "Fish and Ships" in Ballantyne's Cove or "The Cabana" in Malignant Cove. The cottage is named Big Sky for a reason. The sunsets are amazing and what comes afterwards is just as beautiful. The sky opens up to an incredible display of stars at night. There is no such thing as light pollution here! Don't forget to spend some quality family time around the fire pit roasting marshmallows . Nothing beats making s'mores outdoors at a fire pit. The perfect way to cap off the perfect day.
For supplies, the quaint university town of Antigonish is just a short 25 minute drive away. The town has everything you need such as groceries, gas and sundries. Antigonish also offers great restaurants, live theatre, an 18 hole golf course and the recreational facilities at STFX University.
At the end of your stay we want you to go home relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated. Please consider returning to Big Sky Sea Shanty to create new memories in your next Nova Scotia adventure!

The area provides lots of outdoor recreation - hiking, swimming, fishing, boating (wharf nearby-visible from cottage), tuna fishing charters, bird watching, beachcombing (shells, sea glass), and fossil hunting in nearby Arisaig. There is a wheelchair ramp and wide bathroom doors but it is a challenge to enter the cottage in a wheelchair without help. It can be done but the help of others is needed.
