Snail Court is a tranquil retreat where you can unwind at a leisurely pace, listening to the gentle waves lapping at the shore and the birds singing in the trees. Here, you can enjoy the serenity of simply being, free from any agenda. This space is designed for families to set aside their busy lives and embrace simplicity. Please review the simple and explicit cleaning requirements listed further down the page, which must be agreed upon. We warmly welcome families with children and are excited to share our family vacation home with others. This is not a venue for all-night parties, loud music, or groups of friends looking to escape. Additionally, this is a non-smoking property - inside and outside. Guests are required to perform thorough cleaning before their departure. We accommodate families with children, allowing a maximum of five guests, with no more than four being 12 years or older due to new municipality regulations (which also prohibit outside music and fireworks). Please note that there is an outdoor security camera. Our waterfront cottage is situated on Lake Huron, nestled among cedar trees, providing plenty of privacy from the road and neighbouring properties. Be prepared to spot paddlers or a family of geese gliding by on the water. Snail Court is a clean, one-story bungalow featuring an all-pine interior. Most rooms are equipped with ceiling fans, and due to its surroundings of rocks and trees, the cottage generally maintains a comfortable temperature indoors. Each room has new windows that can be opened. Upon entering, you'll find a small foyer for storing outerwear, leading to the kitchen, which includes a microwave, a 30" oven/stove top, and a full-sized refrigerator with a small freezer on top. The cupboards are stocked with kitchenware, including a crock pot, coffee maker, toaster, George Foreman grill, casserole dishes, salad spinner, cutting boards, dishes, glassware, and cutlery. Extra containers are also available for storing leftover food for your hikes on the Bruce Trail. Paper towels, standard condiments, and plastic wrap are provided, along with tea towels and dish soap. The water is tested monthly and deemed safe to drink; however, we recommend bringing your own drinking water. A BBQ is available outside, with tin foil provided. Please remember to clean the BBQ after each use to avoid attracting bears.
From the kitchen, you can see the open-concept dining and living area. A large pine table is available for everyone to gather around, whether for board games, meals, or engaging conversations. We offer Wi-Fi and an Amazon Fire Stick on the TV, allowing you to sign in to your accounts.
The full bathroom features a tub with a shower, along with a toilet and sink in a vanity. Shampoo, liquid soap, and toilet paper are provided, but please bring your own bath towels; kitchen towels are available. There is hot water and good pressure in the shower.
Bedroom #1 features a closet and built-in drawers, along with a stylish Ikea white iron queen-sized bed that comes fully made with linens for your convenience. The mattress is a high-quality foam option. Please note, this room accommodates a maximum of two people due to new municipal regulations.
Bedroom #2 is equipped with a closet and built-in drawers as well, offering both a single bed and a double bed. The mattresses here are also quality foam from Foamite and Ikea, and they are ready for you to enjoy a restful night's sleep.
Our favourite spot is the front sunroom, which is perfect for relaxing with a book or simply enjoying the beautiful water views through the expansive windows that span two walls.
From the sunroom, you can step out onto the front patio, where outdoor furniture is provided. You will find folding chairs that can be adjusted for lounging or sitting around the fire pit. The Muskoka chairs are particularly cozy for enjoying the water scenery, and there are stacking plastic chairs available for fire gatherings. We provide firewood for your first night, and there are plenty of local options to buy more if needed.
If you prefer a quieter indoor setting for conversation, there is an enclosed gazebo furnished with basic seating.
The property is typically set back from the water, but this distance can change each year. Currently, it's about 100 steps to reach the water's edge. The water is shallow enough for young children to play safely under supervision, yet deep enough for adults to enjoy swimming. It's clear, and we provide water shoes since the bottom varies from flat rocks to boulders. You might often spot baby geese or paddlers in the area. While we do not have kayaks or canoes available, you are welcome to bring your own non-motorized water toys. It takes roughly ten minutes to paddle straight across the bay, or you can spend hours exploring the bay itself. More experienced paddlers can venture north or south along the Lake Huron shoreline, but be aware that the waters can be unpredictable!
The cottage is nestled along a picturesque road. This well-wooded property ensures privacy from nearby neighbours and the road. Kids might enjoy playing Robin Hood among the trees. The property is regularly groomed and well-maintained.
Just a short drive away is Tobermory, where you can find a grocery store, churches, a library, internet access, the ChiCheeman ferry to Manitoulin Island, diving opportunities, a tennis court, a golf course, a laundromat, an airport, Fathom Five National Park, a Parks Canada visitor centre, the grotto, Singing Sands, and various eateries and shops.
Additionally, it is a pleasant short drive to Singing Sands beach and walkway, the Bruce Trail, Dunks Bay sand beach, Bruce Peninsula National Park, and Flowerpot Island (accessible by boat). There are plenty of outdoor hiking and exploration opportunities to enjoy.
Wildlife thrives in this peaceful environment, and you are likely to spot a variety of birds, snakes, squirrels, and chipmunks. While you can share some peanuts with them at the fire pit, please remember to clean up any food scraps both inside and outside, as bears have been known to wander nearby! And keep doors closed - wildlife is not welcome in the cottage!
If you are seeking relaxation in a clean and tranquil atmosphere, this could be the perfect spot for you. Being in a rural area means that if the power goes out, you will only have access to water from the lake. There is a phone available for local calls and incoming calls, and cell service is generally reliable. Public phones can be found in Tobermory.
You will have the entire property to yourselves. We are always reachable by phone and available to help with any unexpected issues.
If your family is in search of a peaceful and safe getaway, our cottage is a great option. Just a reminder that guests are expected to clean up before leaving (make sure to check the house rules), but you will not need to worry about bedding! We do ask for a written agreement before renting to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
