Nestled in the pine and cedar trees you will find the Blue Bird's Nest. Welcomed by the wrap around deck we recomend passing by the front door to check out the view of the lake before unpacking. Once inside you will enjoy the open concept common space. No one will be left out of the action even when in the kitchen. The cottage is 3 bedrooms (white cotten sheets included) - one queen bedroom, one double bedroom and a small bedroom with 2 single beds. The space fits 2 couples and 2 children very comfortably. 2 additional children can be acomodated with a day bed and couch allowing for the maximum capacity of 8. The 3pc bathroom (toilet, sink and shower) is newly renovated, cosy and has a rainhead and handheld shower (no tub). Only hand towels are provided, please remember your bath and beach towels. The cottage is on a holding tank so we ask you to be water consious. The living room has a comfy L shaped couch with fluffy pilows and blankets for a cozy cup of tea in front of the fire or popcorn on movie night (hot air popper is provided). The gorgeous stone fireplace makes a statement and you will find everything you need to build and start a fire on a cold damp day. The kitchen is newly renovated and again cozy but well designed. The movable island creates the ability to interact with others and ensures sous chefs can get involved without being in the way. The coffee / toaster station keeps non chefs out of the way. The 2 very comfy stools also allows for the island to be a work space (Bell Fibe wifi allows for video work meetings) or turn the stools around for extra living room seating.
The kitchen is fully equipped for 8 with dishes for inside and outside. (no glass is permitted outside of the cottage)
Appliances include full size fridge with upper freezer, standard electric range with oven, air fryer, 12 cup drip coffee maker and 2 cup french press, kettle, 4 slice toaster, hot air popper and hand beater (for whip cream on your strawberry shortcake).
Dish towels and dish cloths, salt and pepper, olive oil and balsamic vinigar along with vegetable oil, sugar, flour, tea and coffee are all provided. Garlic, tandoori, and cinamon spices are provided as possible stand ins.
The indoor dining room seats 6 comfortably and accomodates 8 continuing the theme. Board games are provided for hours of evening fun. The dining table is a possible second workspace. (Bell Fibe wifi allows for video work meetings)
Alexia is at your beck and call and a firestick allows for multiple options on the TV. Just bring the info for your favorite account. Disney plus, Netflix, Prime...
The theme throughout is cozy but well equipped.
Once you settle in its time to get outside. There are lots of options... a quiet morning coffee for 2 on the deck. A selection of outdoor games including axe throwing (plastic axes), bocci ball and disk golf which both become cross country due to the terain.
And yes... THE DOCK! The dock again allows for 6 muskoka chairs comfortably and a cozy seating for 8. The kids won't sit long with the aqua mat as the main attraction. The water is beautiful and clean. The Lake bottom starts out with sand, gravel and rocks. It gets softer as you go out and there are some weeds in the middle of the bay. The lake is about chest deep at the end of the dock, further across the bay it gets to about 20ft deep. Unfortunatly we have zebra mussles and water shoes are recommended. I have cleared a path as I prefer not to wear water shoes. There is also a sandy beach (Sand Bay) a short paddle (10 min) or drive (15 min) away. This part of Ontario has been blessed with a strip of canadian sheild which provides beautiful rock formations and windswept pines that will have you wanting to explore the lake. Take the canoe or kayaks (there are 2+1) for a paddle, there is so much to see. (Life jackets are availaible please confirm sizing for your group). Fishing rods are also availaible please confirm liscencing requirements. Adventure awaits at Browns Island which is a Provincial Park just to the left of the dock (shown in dock pictures). Swim, canoe or kayak over and explore the flora and fauna, the terrain is untamed and gorgeous. Please leave nothing behind but footprints.
All thats left to do is choose your perfect day!

| Beautiful cottage on Charleston lake. Quiet and relatively private. Close to Sand Bay for excellent beach experience. All the water toys one could ever want. Our host went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was blissful. Will come back!

| We stayed at Blue Bird's Nest cottage in late summer, and it was magical! Such a quiet retreat in a perfect setting. The proximity to Charleston Lake Provincial Park not only ensures a serene setting, but gave my kids several adventures, just a short paddle away. The location is great for both a serious hike or a leisurely stroll, and its unique flora and fauna make for a really fun wildlife walk. Great beach nearby.
The cottage itself is lovely. It's cozy, rustic, and unpretentious, but still boasts the modern amenities you'd hope to have to make your stay comfortable. The cottage is clean, and so thoughtfully equipped, right down to all the games and as well as water toys available for use. The fireplace is just gorgeous.
And the host, Stephanie, is the real deal. She's organized and communicates well. She ensured we were connected with nearby resources to ensure our stay was everything we hoped it would be. Thank you!

| Our week at Blue Bird's Nest was so nice! The cottage was very clean and very well equipped. The size is cozy, but it has everything you need inside and out. We used the kayaks, canoe, fishing rods, and aqua-mat. All were in great condition and added to the fun. The fishing by canoe not far from the cottage was great for the kids. Stephanie was wonderful at communicating about the property and all the surrounding amenities. Athens is only 10 minutes away for groceries, LCBO, pharmacy, pizza, and delicious fresh donuts from Willard's Bakery! Stephanie also put us in contact with someone to take us fishing on the lake which was a fantastic connection. A great host and a great cottage!
