It is recommended that you bring water shoes for your stay. The water entry for the first 15 to 20 feet is a little rocky before you reach the flat smooth limestone opening.
Amherst Island is ideal for biking with virtually no traffic. Cycle along wind-swept coastlines and cross lush farmlands and pick a favourite picnic spot. There are more shoreline roads on this island than all the other Thousand Islands combined. Bicycle rentals are available on the island.
On the Island, there is one general store (cash only) and from May to September, Back Kitchen is open, serving a variety of delicious lunches, dinners and Kawarthas ice cream (please check opening hours). There are no gas station, grocery stores or ATMs on the Island, but if you need more, Bath is 5 minutes away from the Millhaven Ferry and Kingston and Napanee is less than 20 minutes away.
For those looking to do a wine tour of the area, Picton and Prince Edward County is less than an hour drive into the heart of wine county, from the Ferry.
