Great cottage, updated with very good quality furnishings, good quality bedding, towels etc. Everything you would need was supplied right down to the great selection of spices.
We were welcomed with a great gift of some wine which we enjoyed on our first night.
We were made aware of the low water levels but this did not put us off as at this time of year we would not be swimming. The property outside was also very well appointed, great area for the fire pit with easy access to the cottage.
Our relative from Scotland was blown away by the size of the property and how well appointed the outdoor/indoor furnishings were and how peaceful the area was.
Our week was very relaxing, just what we all needed.

We spent the last week of August at Birch Cottage. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a fresh bouquet of flowers and a few special gifts, which we very much enjoyed. The owners were easy to reach and quick to respond prior to our arrival and during our stay. The cottage itself is nicely decorated and updated, a very comfortable space. It is fully stocked with anything you need to feel at home. The bunkie is a great extension of the cottage as well. The views of the lake from inside the cottage as well as on the deck are breathtaking with plenty of seating options to sit and relax or enjoy a meal. White Lake is beautiful and large, which allowed us to fully enjoy the kayaks and paddleboards. We paddled to the larger portion of the lake, where we fished. We caught a few small perch and bass. We also caught a few small fish right off the dock. The water levels are very shallow in front of the cottage, so we were not able to swim. Lake levels are apparently low at this time of the year in this portion of the lake. However, this made the lake life more visible (plants, fish, and fallen trees) which made kayaking and paddleboarding at this end of the lake very interesting. The cottage is private and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed the sound of the Loons at night as we sat by the bonfire. We found several beautiful golf courses close by and a few nice little towns to visit as well. We really enjoyed our stay at Birch Cottage and hope to return again.

This feedback was provided to the owners prior to providing a public review.

Pros: The cabin is comfortable, very clean and well appointed with many amenities and extra touches (flowers and a few beer provided upon arrival). There are kayaks, a paddle boat, and paddle boards provided for use.

Cons: we were disappointed about the waterfront. It was unswimmable. The waterfront seemed to be on more of a marsh as opposed to a lake. It was weedy all the way up to the surface and very shallow. Our children were looking forward to swimming, but they could not jump, or dive into the water from the dock or raft or use the water without getting caught in weeds.

We provided this feedback to the owners during our stay as we were inclined to leave the cottage early as a result. They stated the ministry of resources, the dam and lowered water level was to blame. We are not sure what to believe but the water level was approximately 4 feet deep all the way across to the other side. A cottage neighbor we spoke to said the properties at this end of the lake have always been ?swampy?.

The owners did provide a few other places to swim in the area. We appreciated the suggestions. However, the swimming areas were about 20-30 minute drive there and back each day.

If you are interested in using a cottage for mostly indoor amenities; to eat, drink and chill and you are not interested in using a waterfront to swim (at all) this cottage would be for you.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at this cottage. The cottage and bunkie were both very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Our family of five and large dog had more than enough space, and found everything we needed easily. The hosts left many special touches at the property, which were also really appreciated (fresh flowers, hand written welcome note, birthday decorations for our youngest son?). The outdoor space and views are beautiful, with lots of seating options in different areas. We used both the kayaks and paddle boards, all of which were in fantastic condition. The only drawback for us was that this end of the lake is very shallow, with a large amount of plant matter on the bottom. The kids and dog were happy enough to splash around and make good use of the water trampoline and raft, but it isn't really conducive to swimming. We did, however, find a great swimming spot at the other end of the lake when we went for a paddle.
