We have rented cottages for over 12 years now and this cottage was by far the worst and most disgusting we have ever stayed in! When we arrived we didn't know if we could stay at this cottage for the week? that's how bad it was! We made a trip into town and bought over $150 worth of cleaning supplies, plastic bowls, plates etc as we couldn't use anything supplied in the cottage! The bathroom was disgusting with used soap and pubic hair in it!!! After taking an entire day of our vacation to clean and organize this cottage we decided to stay. Both bbq's didn't work? thank goodness we brought our Blackstone from home or we wouldn't have been able to cook. At times I thought we were going to go through floor boards, not a fire alarm anywhere and the feeling of spiders and mice everyday! Finding mice poop on the counters everyday was a real treat! The only good thing about this cottage was the lake. It was beautiful.

Owner response:
In July 2024, I rented the cottage to a Leanne MacDonald, from New Hamburg. Until now, the cottage has never had a bad review?or? had a renter apply under false pretences. Her rental application stated that she had 6 people in her party, 3 adults, 3 kids, however my neighbours all say that there were more than 6. Sorry, 6 is my limit for first time renters. The more people, the louder things get, the more likely that stuff will get broken, and food left out?which of course attracts MICE. Had I known that there were more than 6 people coming, I would NOT have accepted them as clients. For the record, I only met 4 people; the others arrived after I left.
Two weeks later, I returned her damage deposit in full, despite the fact that they tattooed a very large, permanent burn mark on the deck, broke a lounge chair, and walked away with an iphone charger. In her review, Leanne said that both bbq's don't work, not true, that there's no fire alarm, not true, it's above the hallway, and that the cottage was "disgusting and filthy"...surprising because it is professionally cleaned immediately before each rental. She also complained about mice. Well, there were no mice inside the cottage prior to her stay. I do supply each renter with a document entitled ?cottage stuff?, which I ask them to read thoroughly. It addresses the issue of rodents. ?Mice: If you leave it out, they will come. Left-over food, scraps, and crumbs attract mice. To avoid this headache, please clean up and put away all food immediately after each meal, and deposit your daily garbage each night in the container in the shed.? I texted Leanne on their 2nd last day, to see if any issues had cropped up. She informed me that the bbq's don't work. Not true, that issue is also fully addressed in ?cottage stuff?, quote: ?BBQ ? Propane ? The igniter for the Weber bbq doesn't work. To start, turn on the front burner and stick a bbq lighter into the hole in the lower right corner. Bbq lighter is in the 2nd drawer in the kitchen. There's also a charcoal bbq, plus charcoal on the deck. Starter chips for the charcoal bbq are in the cupboard over the stove. ? I immediately texted back the above instructions. Judging by the filthy grill left behind, they did start the propane bbq and cook their final dinner. They had also attempted to start the charcoal bbq using pieces of cardboard instead of the fire starters that are available. (?) I had told these renters to call or text me if they ran into problems. They didn't call?.or read their ?cottage stuff? document?or use Google (the cottage has internet) Speaking of Google?when you search the client's name...this pops up; interesting:
