"Channel Island is a delightful place for a summer vacation on Lake Rosseau! The swimming is fantastic - you can swim or canoe around the island (we did both every day) - and the island's walking trails are scenic, private and fun - with a great view at the top (North-West) end of the island. The dock gets the sun all day long and has a great view on a low boat traffic area. The main cottage is comfy and bright - a great place for the family to get together for meals, play board games, sit by the fire or just watch TV. The satellite cabins (for sleeping) allow guests to spread out and enjoy some privacy at night. It's clean and comfortable and the location is unparalleled. Great for a family getaway." (from a renter in Summer 2023)
A unique and beautiful family cottage on a private 4-acre island at the mouth of Morgan Bay, at the north end of Lake Rosseau.
Sleeps TEN. Perfect for a family gathering.
Pets welcome.
Motorboat not included, but boat rental available in nearby Rosseau village - we can put you in touch.
The cottage consists of a main living cabin attached to two sleeping cabins by extensive decks.
The main cabin consists of a fully-equipped kitchen area, large dining area and comfortable living area with a fireplace. Wraparound windows offer panoramic views of the north end of the lake, and you walk out onto a very large deck, offering both sun and shade, with another large dining table, and lots of seating. This part of the cottage was designed by a top Toronto architect in the 1990s.
The very private master sleeping cabin has a good-sized bedroom with queen-sized bed, desk, screened porch with seating and ensuite bathroom.
On the other side of the main cabin is another sleeping cabin consisting of one large and one smaller double bedroom, both with sinks, a large twin bedroom and a family bathroom. The deck between the main cabin and this sleeping cabin has a gas barbeque, easily accessible from the kitchen.
On the other side of the island is a historic log cabin with a double bed, offering utterly private, quiet and comfortable accommodation for those who don't mind using an outhouse.
All bedding, towels, dishes, cutlery and kitchen equipment is provided. The cottage is fully supplied with wifi. There is a dishwasher and utility room with a washing machine and extra fridge.
There's a large well sheltered dock with a covered slip for a motorboat, an inflatable trampoline and a boat shed with canoes and a full-sized pingpong table. There's excellent, sheltered swimming from the dock (around the island takes about 20-30 minutes), as well as shallow sandy areas perfect for small children. Paths take you all around the island, including to jumping cliffs and a point with a view of the sun setting over the lake.
The island has remained more or less in its natural state, with adjustments made to the comforts of modern living. The paths are kept clear by clipping and raking, the tree cover is managed, and the natural moss garden on the northern side is regularly groomed. We are visited occasionally by a doe and her faun, gentle and unobstrusive as they keep the ground cover low. There are squirrels and chipmunks and birds in profusion, including hummingbirds that hover around the feeder.
Access is by boat from the village of Rosseau (a 5-10 minute boat ride), where there is safe car parking available.
