Relax with friends and family on your own private beach! Located on a small, quiet, and stunning lake only an hour from Ottawa, this rustic cabin gives you a back-to-nature experience with just enough of modern comforts to enjoy it. Unwind by the lake, cook outdoors, roast marshmallows around the campfire, swim, fish, canoe, watch for loons and turtles, explore forest trails, use an outhouse (it's part of the charm, we promise!), or find adventure at nearby attractions like whitewater rafting. Rough-it-in-style at Piney Point. The cabin offers clean drinking water to the kitchen tap (cold only) and a few plugs for charging phones/ flashlights as well as extensions which power the string lights in the main part of the cabin, a mini-fridge, a kettle, and a Keurig coffee machine. Beyond this, there is no electricity. An outdoor barbeque, camp stove, and dishes are provided along with propane and firewood. Guests are encouraged to keep their food and garbage properly stored to avoid attracting mice and other wildlife. Please note that there is NO WASHROOM. The outhouse is new and as clean as an outhouse gets. There is one bedroom with a proper door and a queen-sized bed. Nearby is a small room with a set of bunkbeds with blackout curtains in place of a door. Outside that, there is a single twin with blackout with curtains in place of a door. A chaise lounge in the living room converts to a single sleeping spot if required. There is also an unfurnished loft with ladder access but is only for use by those willing to assume that risk. If guests would like to use the loft as an additional sleeping space, camping mattresses would be required. Guests are required to bring their own bedding, pillows, and towels.
Guests of Piney Point have use of the entire property and can access over 50 acres of forest and trails. A canoe and paddles are provided. Lifejackets are available upon request although bringing your own is always preferable and ensures a proper fit. Guests can bring SUPs and kayaks but motorized vessels of any kind are not permitted. The lake is quiet and serene and we are committed to keeping it that way. If you're looking for a place to party or blast music, this is not the right spot for you. Guests have the benefit of having the host family next door. Guests will be given complete privacy during their stay but should feel free to reach out or wander over at any point for assistance, even if you've simply forgotten to pack something. Guests are also free to use the guest wifi account.
Be part of the incredible history of Catharine Lake, the hidden gem of the historic Champlain Trail Lakes. Did you know that in 1613, French explorer and cartographer, Samuel de Champlain, confronted with the mighty whitewater rapids of the Ottawa River, changed course and portaged several small lakes, including this one? It was on this trip that he famously dropped his astrolabe a mere 11 kms from Piney Point. Picture Champlain with his crew and seventeenth century supplies emerging from the forest and making his way across the same water when you're lakeside.
