*NEW LISTING* Our spacious custom-built waterfront lake house/ cottage sits on the private shore of Kashwakamak Lake, a pristine lake in a natural forest area, located in the beautiful Land 'O Lakes district. It was newly built about 10 years ago on the site of our original family cottage and has all the comforts of home while also having authentic Ontario cottage charm. It is located in Eastern Ontario about 3 hours from Toronto and 2 hours from Ottawa.
This is our private family cottage which we rent occasionally when not being used by our family.
Families that enjoy spending time together in nature will love our cottage. We prefer smaller family groups of up to 6-8, with max 6 adults. A 4th bedroom can be discussed if needed.
This is the kind of place you go to get away from it all and build family memories ... sit by the lake and read a good book, swim, canoe, kayak, fish, hike, enjoy nature, play games and relax. The cottage has a spacious kitchen that is fully equipped with everything you need for cooking and baking, including full size oven/range and fridge, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, Nespresso machine, toaster etc. There is also an outdoor gas BBQ/grill. There is a full-size washer and dryer in the basement.
Our forest-inspired decor includes vintage-look plank floors throughout the cottage which are complimented with beautiful Ontario pine doors, trim and cabinets and warm wall colours. There is lots of comfortable furniture/seating in the huge "great room", a games table and big TV. The screened indoor/outdoor room off the kitchen (with retractable vinyl windows) features deep seating providing extra living space and respite from evening mosquitoes or a rainy day. Each of the bedrooms has a comfortable queen size bed and dresser; and there is a full bathroom with shower, plus a 2pc bathroom. A propane furnace keeps it cozy in the cooler weather while central air conditioning, the lake breeze and ceiling fans keep it cool in the heat of summer.
We have an expansive deck across the front of the cottage with an outdoor dining table, umbrella and 8 chairs, a deep seating conversation area and fire table, and 4 "Muskoka chairs" for relaxing and watching the lake. The large private dock is equipped with loungers and more Muskoka chairs; for swimming and soaking up the sun. A firepit near the shore is perfect for evening family campfires. (When no burn ban in effect)
The cottage is close to the lake with a nice level lot that makes it an easy walk. We are at the tip of a large bay, so have a small beach area that makes it possible to walk into the water from the shore; or you can go off the dock. The water is about 5' deep at the end of the dock. You are welcome to tie your boat at our dock; and there is also a local marina on the lake that rents pontoon boats. There is a canoe available to enjoy on the lake as well as 2 premium kayaks (for adult use). Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy fishing for walleye/pickerel and bass.
Kashwakamak lake is a scenic lake that is 15 miles long, with lots of lovely islands and bays to explore. It is typically a calm lake (especially in our protected bay) and is not very busy with boat traffic. The water is very clean and beautiful for swimming; and gets up to about 22 - 24C (75-80F+) in July and August. May, June, September and October are also lovely months here. In the fall the air is crisp and the fall tree colours make for beautiful hiking and canoeing. The cottage road is perfect for long walks/hikes in the forest. For outings, we are close to well-known Bon Echo provincial park on Mazinaw Lake; a charming 9 hole golf and frisbee-golf course; and Kingston/1000 Islands or Westport is a great day trip. Lots of stunning scenic drives north of us towards Barry's Bay or Bancroft - especially beautiful in the fall.
There is an abundance of wildlife to observe and enjoy including loons, herons, hummingbirds, lake otters, our resident groundhog, turtles and too many types of birds to mention.
We have unlimited highspeed internet, which we use to stream entertainment on our smart device and cast to the big TV. (No satellite) There is also a DVD player and lots of DVDs, as well as plenty of games to enjoy - indoors and outside. (Board games, Cornhole, Badminton, Bocce Ball)
There is a well-equipped Foodland grocery store and excellent butcher shop in the nearby town, as well as an LCBO and beer store.
Minimum 7 day bookings, usually Friday - Friday. (4 night min in off-season)
To provide you peace of mind when making a payment, we are offering Cottages in Canada's option to accept credit cards. We also accept e-transfer if that is your preference.
