Welcome to Port Albert!
Port Albert is a small, unhurried village on the shores of Lake Huron along Ontario's west coast, known for its warm sandy beaches, breathtaking sunsets, and remarkably clear night skies. It's a place that moves at its own pace — and that's exactly the point.
This four-bedroom bungalow sits just a two-minute walk from the beach, nestled between two neighbouring properties for extra privacy. The open-concept layout and two large decks make it well suited for families or friend groups looking to settle in and truly unwind for the week. Evenings here have their own quiet magic — campfires under a brilliant Milky Way, and if you're out at sunset, you may catch the sound of the village bagpiper, a beloved local tradition that guests mention again and again.
The Space
The open-concept living area flows naturally out onto two large decks, making the transition from indoor to outdoor feel effortless. Whether it's morning coffee, afternoon barbecues, or late-night conversations around the fire pit, the layout is built for the way families and friends actually spend their cottage time. Fans throughout the cottage keep air moving on warm summer days, and big windows invite the lake breeze in. It's classic cottage comfort — unpretentious, relaxed, and exactly what you came for.
The Kitchen
The kitchen is genuinely well-stocked and ready to cook. A full spice rack and pantry staples mean you just need to bring the main ingredients. You'll find a Keurig and Cuisinart drip coffee maker, an air fryer, a crock pot, filtered water, and fridge condiments already waiting. Two full fridges and freezers mean there's plenty of room for a week's worth of groceries for a group of eight.
Sleeping Arrangements The cottage comfortably sleeps 8, with room for a few extras:
Primary Bedroom: Queen bed + fold-down futon and twin inflatable Bedroom 2: Queen bed Bedroom 3: Double bed Bedroom 4: Twin bunk beds — perfect for kids
Bed linens and bath towels are provided. No smoking indoors.
The Bathroom
There's one full indoor bathroom with a bright, compact shower, plus an optional outhouse on the property for overflow. The real star for beach days, though, is the outdoor hot-water shower at the front of the cottage — ideal for rinsing off sandy feet and swimsuits before heading inside. With most of your time spent outside anyway, the setup works smoothly in practice.
Beach & Outdoor Living
The beach is a two-minute walk — and we've made it even easier. Beach chairs, an umbrella, and a wagon are all provided so you can load everyone up and head down without the usual juggling act.
Back at the cottage, the fire pit is the natural gathering spot once the sun goes down. Campfire wood is included — just add marshmallows, good company, and a clear night sky. The BBQ is ready for your cookouts, and the spacious private lawn gives kids (and adults) room to roam.
Entertainment & Rainy Days
Should the weather roll in, the cottage has you covered. A genuine Pac-Man/Galaga arcade cabinet, board games, and books for all ages make rainy afternoons surprisingly enjoyable. Outdoor games like Cornhole and Bocce are on hand for when the sun returns. High-speed fibre internet and streaming via Amazon Fire Stick and Apple TV round things out for movie nights.
What's Nearby
5 min — Ruetz Country Market at 82818 Bluewater Highway is a beloved local gem and an easy stop right down the road. Known for fresh and locally grown produce and local delights, Ruetz supports neighbouring farmers and is actively building a genuine food community in the area. This year they've introduced a self-serve honour stand available three times a week — a lovely reflection of the trust and community spirit that defines this stretch of Lake Huron. Highly recommended.
10 min — Amberley General Store for everyday essentials and LCBO pickup
15 min — Goderich, known as Canada's prettiest town, offers everything you need for a well-stocked week. The BIA Farmers' Market runs every Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM around the historic Courthouse Square, with a Sunday market from 8 AM to noon featuring antiques, collectibles, and handmade crafts. Beyond the markets you'll find great restaurants, boutique shopping, the Huron County Museum, and a laundromat at 72 Hamilton Street. Summer highlights include the Celtic Roots Festival (August 7–9), the Circle City Cruizers Car Show in July, and the Salt & Harvest Festival over Labour Day weekend — a Top 100 Ontario event celebrating the town's unique salt mining heritage.
20 min north — Kincardine, Ontario's Scottish destination on Lake Huron, is well worth an afternoon. Station Beach offers vast sandy shores, beach volleyball, and shallow gradual waters, plus a charming boardwalk. The town features a historic lighthouse, galleries, and boutique shops along Queen Street — and end the day watching a piper at sunset at the Kincardine Lighthouse, a beloved tradition that mirrors the magic back home in Port Albert.
25 min south — Bayfield is a beautifully preserved heritage village with a charming Main Street full of boutique shops, galleries, and excellent restaurants. The Bayfield Farmers' Market runs every Friday afternoon from May to October in Clan Gregor Square, and the beaches here have earned Blue Flag status for water quality. A perfect day-trip destination.
Local favourites — the Bunny Trail, the Fishway with the beautiful views of the river valley, and the Petrie Park playground with a walking trail and picnic areas, are all worth exploring right in the Port Albert area.
