| Our stay was incredibly peaceful and enjoyable. The quiet was amazing (!) and a welcome break from the never-ending noises of city life. The cottage had everything we could possibly have needed, and the privacy, both inside and out, was a much-appreciated feature. There were so many great touches in the cottage, from the soothing paint colours and low-maintenance flooring, to the owl (and other subject matter) art and figurines, wonderful kitchen appliances, comfy and stylish furnishings, fitted window coverings, cottage and area information, and so on. The screened-in porch is lovely, and it was nice to have a clothesline to hang up wet swimwear and towels. The waterfront area is beautiful, with multiple entry points from the docks. Although we didn't use the pedal boat or kayaks, we spent A LOT of time swimming. Gradual depth changes from shore area entry to points in line with end of dock. The views from every vantage point on this property are absolutely gorgeous. Taking in the sights from the balcony off the upstairs master bedroom is a particularly special experience! Jennifer was very communicative and attentive from start to finish. Our damage deposit was returned to us very quickly. Thanks, Jennifer, for entrusting your beautiful cottage to our family. It was a wonderful experience in a serene and beautiful place!

| We loved the cottage: warm, cozy, clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the great walks, the stunning views from the cottage and dock and the peace and tranquility. We greatly enjoyed the BBQ and the numerous terraces. Our night sleeps were awesome thanks to a nice comfortable bed. We would highly recommend to friends and family. Thanks, Ester and Roland

| We enjoyed our 4 days at this cottage but mostly because of the company. It was not emphasized at all to me the steep climb and dissent to the water front. Since recently completing cancer treatments, I felt the trek was too dangerous for my physical capabilities especially with the 2 dogs with me that had to stay leashed at all times due to steep cliffs everywhere. I made the slow walk up and down 2 times but mostly stayed in the nice screened in porch overlooking the water front where my teens hung out. I wish I could view the waterfront but it was so over grown with brush that the shore line can not be seen from the cottage. The Xbox does not work. No cleaning products other then dish soap.

Owner response: Thank you very much for taking the time to provide this feedback. I am so sorry to hear about your medical issues and physical capabilities through this review, and want to wish you everything of the best in your ongoing journey, a journey that is often so very hard. Calabogie Retreat provides for stunning, elevated views of the lake, as are seen in the listing's photographs #1, #4, #12 and #16/16. The wooden staircase seen in #15/16 shows the steepest of the flights down the hill (not cliff), along with the natural shoreline whose vegetation is protected by law to guard the pristine waters of this lake. (#3/16 looks the other way along the shoreline.) Summer vacations are precious and to be enjoyed, and that is why for the past few years, I have personally called every single prospective guest ahead of accepting their booking, to ensure a match between the property and their party's needs/comfort. It is my regret that, while we were able to resolve fully a couple of items of potential concern for your party of your two young adults/older teens and their friends when we spoke by telephone, the medical vulnerability could also have been resolved discreetly, especially in light of one of the two guest reviews that explicitly cautions those with mobility issues who also wish to access the docks. Calabogie Retreat is cleaned carefully and restocked before and after each guest, following an 86-point checklist that assures a consistent, high-quality result. Guests are requested only to wash used dishes, wipe up spills, and to tidy-up and sweep, as necessary upon departure. Dish and hand soap are provided, as well as bathroom and toilet cleaner and cloths, should an interim clean of the tub, basin or toilet be required. Complementary bath/shower gel, shampoo and laundry detergent are also provided for all visits. Finally, thank you for alerting me that the hiding spot for the obsolete x-box was found?it was removed from the listing a few seasons ago, and should have been discarded. My apologies for that. | |

| I recently stayed at the Calabogie retreat for a week with my husband and our dog. It's a beautiful place and we really enjoyed our stay. The waterfront is rocky but the owner advised us of that beforehand and we brought water shoes. There's a dock and decks, lots of space to hang out and lots of room for chairs. There is a canoe and two kayaks included. The screened porch is lovely and was great at night (and would be perfect for rainy days). I wouldn't recommend for anyone with mobility issues and there are quite a few stairs down to the lake. We just made sure to pack a cooler to limit trips back up!! It's very private as well, down at the water and up at the cottage, which was nice. The owner was also quick to reply to emails if we had any questions :) Overall we loved the cottage and would rent again. The week went by way too fast!!
