Pet-friendly, Waterfront Cottage. Ideal location for families to explore and enjoy Nova Scotia. Travel has certainly changed. Most of our guests used to be from places other than Nova Scotia. Over the last few years, we have been pleasasntly surprised by the number of Nova Scotians visiting our cottage. It was a delight to see guests discover what was to some of them, a new part of Nova Scotia. It seems we are also midway between Halifax and Sydney so it was an ideal meeting spot for others. So whether you are new to Nova Scotia or just looking to discover more of this beautiful province, ours is a great place for a vacation. The cottage has been completely updated inside. We look forward to your visit and remember, well-mannered pets are always welcome. EXPLORE ALL NOVA SCOTIA ATTRACTIONS FROM OUR CENTRALLY LOCATED LAKEFRONT/ OCEAN SIDE COTTAGE....WARM freshwater swimming at your doorstep and sandy ocean beach nearby. Ideal location for a relaxing getaway and perfect launchpad to explore all of Nova Scotia.
The Cottage is located on warm, freshwater Indian Harbour Lake (perfect for swimming) which empties into the ocean a few minutes' paddle, walk or drive away at beautiful, sandy Port Hilford Beach. We have been vacationing in the area for over 50 years and have now become permanent residents. We love it so much that we bought the cottage next door to share with others. The Cottage has 3 bedrooms with 1 full bathroom, ideal for 6 people. It has an open concept kitchen, dining and living room with electric fireplace and a lovely sunroom to enjoy views of the lake or curling up with a good book. Outdoors, there is a large deck for relaxing, barbequing and outdoor eating and a dock right outside the door for swimming and enjoying amazing sunsets. The cottage is equipped with a gas barbeque, fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, cooking utensils and bedding, linens and towels. There is an outdoor fire pit with firewood supplied. A canoe to explore the lake and fishing gear are available. Bonus! A fishing license is not required!
There are many recreational opportunities nearby, from exploring for Captan Kidd's treasure to the Highland Games, from Music festivals to fine dining. Your activities are limited only by your imagination.
Highlights include, but are not limited to: HISTORIC SHERBRROKE VILLAGE where you'll see life as it was in a typical Nova Scotian village in the 1800's. Weekly concerts at the Courthouse in Sherbrooke Village provide a great chance to hear some real Maritime music. https://sherbrookevillage.novascotia.ca/ You'll also find more modern amenties - hospital, grocery, liquor, pharmacy and hardware stores, gas and restaurants - in Sherbrooke. Our favourite is BEANIE'S BISTRO, the best place for an authentic specialty coffee and/or meal. It is also a licensed liquor outlet. https://www.facebook.com/Whitneys-Corner-Store-216291001885646/ LISCOME RIVER TRAILS offer fantastic guided or non-guided walking/hiking trails from 400m to 9.6km long. https://www.novascotia.com/see-do/trails/liscomb-river-trail-system/6166 ANTONISH, home of the Highland Games and Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre, has many fine restaurants and more serious shopping. | Nora and David are wonderful hosts. They left a bottle of wine and Nora even baked a delicious birthday cake for our daughter. The cottage is very cute and clean. It has a kitchen fully stocked with any utensils, cheese grater, pots, pans etc. They have a great variety of games and puzzles. The cottage is right on the lake with a stunning view, also a dock with Adirondack chairs and a dock you can swim to. The cottage is less than 5 minutes from Port Hilford beach which is just lovely . This cottage is a perfect vacation spot with the 3 bedrooms and being pet friendly. Thanks so much for hosting us, we will definitely be returning ( again , this was our second time).

| Dave and Nora's cottage is the perfect place to stay on Nova Scotia's beautiful eastern shore. We swam every day in the warm waters of the lake and enjoyed our coffee on the dock in the morning. The beds are comfortable, the cottage is spacious. Plus, it has everything from games, puzzles and beach toys to a well equipped kitchen. Highly recommended!

| We spent a sunny and spectacular week enjoying the dock and the house, as well as perusing the ocean beach one kilometer away. It felt like our own private beach- just a few families and dog walkers all happy to chat. There was a warm river running into the oceran (from the lake) which meant kids bathed at that end- a real treat. There were sandpipers, a seal, terns, gulls, shells, tiny fish- you could spend a long time slowly looking at the newly washed up items each day. The lake is warm; we were in every day. There is room enough for a gang of friends or a large family, a lovely porch in case of inclement weather and a wrap around balcony with places to sit and enjoy the lake view. Nora and David were very helpful and right next door, so it was easy to ask for information about the area. The place is a bit secluded, so you need to bring in your favourite things to eat - we stocked up at a large grocery store beforehand and then made a short run to two nearby towns for the basics we needed. Check out the lovely bakery/gift store down the road- the owners have really lovely gifts of all kinds, mostly lovely photos and paintings but worth the visit.

| Two items to be aware of: 1.) there is no washer or dryer for this cottage, 2.) there is no air conditioning, though you will need AC very little in Nova Scotia. That being said, WE LOVED OUR STAY IN THIS COTTAGE. It is beautifully decorated, wonderfully provisioned with cooking ware, a fine stove and refrigerator, and a good dishwasher. The view of the lake is spectacular and the deck at water's edge excellent for swimming off of or just lounging in the big Adirondack chairs watching the sunset. Nearby Historic Sherbrooke Village, 9 miles (14 kil) away, is well worth spending an afternoon visiting. There is a wonderful sand beach on the ocean just a mile and a half down the road from the cottage. The small waves (one or two feet high) roll in and we found the half mile long beach deserted in the mornings (but busy in the PM). We were very comfortable in this cottage.

| This is my dream cottage! Knotty pine floors and walls and a lovely sunroom with wicker furniture. Beautiful Indian Harbour Lake is a few feet away and so quiet. The sound of loons serenades you to sleep. We enjoyed the Muskoka style chairs on the dock and excellent swimming in fresh water. Port Hilford Beach on the ocean is a 2 min drive away and gorgeous. We hope to return! Our hosts were friendly and communication with them was easy.
