A rare find!! Unique and secluded 4.25 acres of forest, fruit trees and blooming flowerbeds with about 800 feet of Riverfront Privacy in front of both cottages!
We accept reservations now for 2019! Please note we only rent weekly during high season (June 15 to September 07) of 2019.
Beautiful cozy cottages that show as a 10/10 inside and out.
Saugeen River Retreat is ~ 1400 square feet of elegance and comfort. Our cottages are located on a very private and quiet waterfront property with ~800 feet on Saugeen River, in the middle of an impressive 4 acres riverfront lot covered by forest, within the boundaries of the town of Southampton. The 2 cottages are nestled between the Chippewa Golf course and the river. Our dream cottages were built overlooking the pristine Saugeen River. Both cottages face the river bend and have stunning vistas.
Beautiful wood beam ceilings throughout were preserved over the years and they are complemented by new ceramic floors and reconditioned original hardwood floors. There is no carpet. The rooms are very stream lined with no clutter! And the windows! The views! It must be seen to be appreciated!! Please watch our video clips on youtube by searching "Saugeen River Retreat" under my channel "Rick Radu" for a better understanding.
If you are craving a relaxing retreat, we are offering you a chance to enjoy the beautiful outdoors that nature has provided around our cottage. What more could you ask for than a relaxing week on this pristine river paradise in a luxurious newly renovated cottage and the boat house. Take some time to enjoy amazing fishing (more experienced fisherman are telling us we own the best fishing spot on the river), swimming off the shore in the river or at the beach nearby, or canoeing, kayaking, playing badminton, or just sunbathing. Saugeen River is considered as one of Ontario's best Steelhead fishing rivers by fishing enthusiasts. Relax beside the picturesque Saugeen River or canoe or kayak to Denny's Dam or the shores of Lake Huron. Do you love golfing? Try the flawless greens of Chippewa Golf and Country Club that spread out into a relaxing setting just across the street from our property.

We had a great time at the cottage this year with our children and grandchildren. Having the three buildings worked out fantastic as our two daughters and their husbands could each stay in one of the smaller buildings, while my son & grandsons were able to stay with us in the larger cottage. Feeling like you are in the middle of the wilderness, while only being a couple of minutes away from town was the ultimate in vacation convenience. There was so much to do with great beaches nearby, and a visit to Spirit Rock near Wiarton and the grotto near Tobermory made for great day trips. We also made great use of the kayaks and canoe on the river, although unfortunately we didn't catch any fish.
Rick & his son Alex were very helpful stopping by a couple of times to ensure that everything was all right made us feel that no matter what happened we would be well looked after. With our two dogs, the privacy of the place was great as we were sure that they wouldn't be bothering any neighbours. Our whole family agreed that we had a great time and look forward to returning in future years.

Just returned home from a week at this amazing retreat. The pictures don't do it justice...love the cottage, chalet and the bunkie (recently renovated). So nice for larger families so everyone could have their own oasis.....so private and fully stocked with everything you would need. Rick was very accommodating and came to greet us....instead of telling us all the thing we couldn't do, he just beemed with pride in his property with things we could do...so refreshing...we are definately going to make this an annual...we loved it !!

Wow! This cottage retreat is the best I've been to. Perfect combination of privacy, luxury, outdoors and at the same time convenience of having a proper kitchen with fridge, freezer, oven and grocery stores near by.

The property itself is really beautiful. When we got there we were shocked by the property. It's beautiful with so much nature, but the most important thing is the privacy. You've for a huge beautiful space for yourself with no one to disturb.

And talk about hospitality from the owner. Rick was amazing, he was very approachable and always there to help. We had questions about the area, excursions and other things and he answered all of them professionally.

He is very reasonable and wants us to enjoy the cottage fully. He even came by to say hi and show us all the things in the property.

There is a lot to do in this cottage, there are kayaks and canoes provided for free with life jackets... All nine yards. There is a big space to play soccer, there is also a net for volleyball, badminton.. etc

Thanks Rick for an amazing experience. Will definitely recommend everyone to check this hidden gem out. You will not regret it.!

We were all totally blown away by this cottage. The location is perfect, you'll think you are in the wilderness and yet there is a grocery store about 800 metres away. Truly amazing place you have to see to believe. Firstly the communication with the owner Rick was excellent, he answered every question we asked before we got there. On arrival wow, we were blown away and could not believe it was all for us. After settling in we realized we did not have to carry anything as the cottage came with everything we could possibly need and was very clean. The cottage is under some huge shady trees so it was very cool inside even during very hot days, very comfortable.

Then came the fishing, wow wow wow, we've never caught so much fish. We were fishing from the bank and had an amazing experience everyday catching a lot of fish between 3 of us. We caught lots of bass catfish suckers and freshwater drum from between 1lb to 17lbs.. The evenings were heavenly and we enjoyed using the gazebo and fire pit down by the water.

Saugeen River Retreat is an amazing place and we would definitely recommend it for your summer vacation just not the first week of July as we have already re booked it lol

Thank you Rick and family for an amazing experience

Dear Keith & Johanna Mavroleon,
Thank you so very much for your glowing review! Given that you and your family have been living on 3 different continents and traveling the world more than most of us, your kind words are high praise indeed! We are so very happy that you both enjoyed your stay with us and it was an absolute pleasure meeting you and your extended family. What a pleasure! Please remember that you are presently the holders of the fishing record for one week vacation at our property: 162 large fish! (4-18lb). Thanks for releasing almost all of them alive so other people can enjoy the experience. Thanks for booking your 2019 vacation again with us. We sincerely hope you will come back this way sometime this fall for trout fishing and be our guests again! And we'd love to hear more of your ongoing fishing adventures!

First, I would like to talk about the property. OMG, it was huge. There was a cottage, a chalet, and a cabin all located within the property nearby, and all provided a wonderful view of the Saugeen River. There was so much to do at this Southampton-Saugeen River Retreat, like fishing, canoeing/kayaking, lots of games provided for us (like badminton, volleyball, football, soccer, etc), hiking, plenty of firepits for campfires, and lots more. The cottage had everything you would need for a nice little getaway, with lots of places to sleep in/sit on, and a bathroom with an awesome shower. The chalet was nice and cozy, as it had a kitchenette and its own bathroom (the bathroom also included keyed access from the outside, which was convenient to have). And the cabin, while lacking in any other amenities, was comfy to sleep in, had that nice cedar smell, and had an amazing view. It was beautiful here, and I would definitely agree that this property was a nice little retreat.

Secondly, I want to talk about the owner, Rick. He was very accomodating, as we had booked last minute when our previous cottage plans didn't work out. Prior to booking, we had many questions for him, and he had always responded quickly. He was always a phone call/email away. He even came by and made sure we were making use of every amenity and having the best time. We also got a nice piece of catfish Rick caught the day before to taste as a gift! Talk about hospitality! Definitely recommending!

Hi Jasmine and Patrick,
Thank you, thank you for the superb description of our lovely Saugeen River Retreat! I was very happy to see your family members enjoying the place, laughing, playing and having a good time. It makes me happy when I see this. Our vision is to help our quests to go home with unforgettable memories filled with fun and unique experiences which will stay with them forever. The dramatic contrast between the busy daily lives in our big, large, noisy cities and this private, peaceful and angelic River Retreat is stunning and even now after many years we are finding this place irresistible. It just tells us: "please relax, enjoy, live life, smell the flowers, feel the wind, listen to the nature, forget about stress?. Your family is very special and amazing: despite having 16 members here you managed to leave the place as you found it! You should write a book on ?cottage manners?. We were speechless when we inspected the property after your departure. If all your friends and families are like you, please bring them on with you or send them to us. We will do our best to accommodate all of you even if we have to break some rules. We love and understand families. We appreciate returning guests and their friends and reward them with 5% discount. You gained our trust and respect.
Thank you again Bravo's family for allowing us to provide a memorable place for you!

See you next time Jasmine, Patrick and family!
