Our cottage is the perfect escape for MATURE couples and FAMILIES with CHILDREN seeking a luxurious getaway nestled in nature and century old trees! Our 4 season SMOKE/VAPE FREE cottage is 1600 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom, spotlessly clean bungalow with every modern convenience. It is situated in a peaceful setting on a private road, 30 feet from the water's edge on a gently sloping lot with only eight stairs to the dock! New for the 2020 season is a single/double bunk-bed in one of the bedrooms - the single is suitable for a child. The other three bedrooms offer a king and double beds. SMOKING AND VAPING ARE FORBIDDEN!

We are located on clean Salmon Trout Lake on a private gravel road which is 50 m from a gravel Township road. There's no traffic or road noise so your kids and dogs can play outside safely. We have easy year-round access which makes it possible to get to the cottage even in the winter. We're also fully insured AND all of the pictures on this site are current - in other words, the only surprises you'll have will be good ones! We cater to families (adults with kids) or couples, NEVER to groups of adults.

Our location on Salmon Trout Lake invites you to explore the outdoors. The lake is a natural Walleye hatchery which also has Small Mouth Bass and Sunfish, but nothing else. The lot is gently sloping with a sandy entrance to the water, perfect for beginner swimmers. You can swim to our water trampoline (where the water's depth is about 10-12 ft.) and practice your cannonballs (the trampoline will be taken out of the lake around Labour Day). The water gradually gets deeper as you walk out from the shore and offers excellent current-free swimming. The water's depth at the end of our dock (which was replaced in 2019) varies from about 4 ft in the driest of summers to a more typical 5-6 ft in most summers. Many guests enjoy shallow diving from the end of the dock or using the ladder to gradually and gently enter the water. There are some short weeds at the end of the dock, but not tall, lanky ones like some lakes have. The sandy, shallow entry is safe for toddlers and children!

From the moment we opened the door to Summerhill Cottage, we were enthralled with its setting and beautiful view of the tranquil lake. The cottage itself was a delight - clean, spacious and warm, thanks to its pine interior. Everything set a welcoming note, and there were many thoughtful touches provided by our hosts, Liz and Ray. The lake was lovely to swim in, with a nice sandy bottom for wading in and a ladder for easy entry. We enjoyed fabulous meals, which were easy to prepare, thanks to the cottage's remarkably well-stocked kitchen and convenient BBQ. Evenings were enjoyed sitting on the dock with a cocktail, watching the sunset, the peace broken only by the loons in the distance. The cottage is stocked with lots of water toys, board games and activities to keep everyone happily occupied and the hot tub is a great addition. Beds were extremely comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. Summerhill Cottage is a wonderful place to escape from the city and re-connect with family. We highly recommend it. Thank you Liz and Ray!

Hi Julie,
Thank-you for the great review! We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed our cottage and the amenities that we offer. Whenever we travel we are especially appreciaitve of comfortable beds, linens, and well stocked kitchens, so we try hard to ensure that our guests are comfortable on their holiday by providing that things that we would want ourselves. Escaping the city and having the chance to reconnect with family and recharge our batteries is what a holiday should be all about. See you again!

I spent an amazing week at Summerhill Cottage in July with my two sons. From the minute we entered the cottage we felt like we were in a place to call home (temporarily). It is obvious that Liz & Ray take pride in the cottage, it is clean, in excellent repair and there is nothing you could possibly need that isn't already there or that won't be delivered promptly to you with a text. I couldn't have asked for more, truly a fabulous experience. Early morning swims, coffee on the dock, canoeing, SUP, hot tub, relaxing by the camp fire, awesome BBQ'ing, board games. I have already booked my week for next year!! Thank you Liz and Ray for being so attentive!

Hi Shari,
We're so happy that you and your sons had a great time at the cottage! There isn't a nicer compliment to hear than that you felt like you could call our cottage your home from the minute you entered - even if it was only for a short time. We work hard to make the cottage welcoming so that our guests can relax and enjoy their time away from the city and their usual routines. You ticked off a lot of boxes that people put on their "must do at the cottage" list, and we're delighted that we'll be welcoming you back next August for more of the same! We appreciate you taking the time to write your review - thanks for coming!

My husband and I stayed 5 wonderful nights at this beautiful cottage to relax after the busy Christmas season. First time stay and we know there will be many, many more. The owners were quick and easy to communicate with, answering my many questions (sorry, Liz - thanks for your patience). Pride of ownership was evident when we walked in the door. So clean and organized with lots of information provided. Beautiful view of the lake and lots of areas to walk around and explore. The weather wasn't top notch during our stay. There was a threat of an ice storm with possible power outages but we knew the back-up generator would keep us operational, if needed. During this time, we enjoyed access to the great satellite system available. The kitchen was a joy to cook in - knives were sharper than our own!!! I dare anyone to name one item that is missing from this amazingly stocked kitchen. Furniture was so comfortable and lots of room for quiet reading, foosball and the many games provided. The beds and pillows were super comfy. And, of course, the hot tub was the icing on the cake. Well maintained, roomy and so very relaxing on a wintry night. We've stayed in many rentals over the years but this one is at the top of our list. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage and ensuring your guests have a wonderful stay at Summerhill Cottage. We can't wait for a return visit. All the best for 2020, Liz and Ray.

Hi Carol,
Thank-you for taking the time to write such a positive, lengthly and detailed review! I don't think you missed mentioning any of the special features of our cottage that we provide and maintain so that every rental experience is a great one. It's very rewarding for us to rent to respectful people such as yourselves who are experienced renters and who recognize and appreciate our efforts. We look forward to hosting you again! Liz and Ray

We stayed at Summerhill cottage for Christmas with my family, what a beautiful cottage. We absolutely loved the place, everything you could possibly need was included. The kitchen was a joy to cook in, the hottub was so relaxing and the surroundings were beautiful. Liz was a great host and so very helpful- great communication, decorating the cottage for Christmas, providing tree stand and generously giving a welcoming gift. Thank you for helping us have such a magical Christmas.

Hi Adele, Thank-you for writing your review! We're delighted that you had a great time and that you all had time to relax while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings. It was a pleasure being able to contribute to the Christmas spirit by putting up some decorations and providing a tree stand! Christmas is a magical time, and nothing can compare to spending it with your family in Ontario's beautiful cottage country. You were all very considerate guests and we hope you're able to visit again!

We had the most beautiful, relaxing, and memorable March Break at this cottage. We were able to cross country ski and snowshoe on the lake, go for long hikes in the woods, and enjoy the amazing hot tub. The view of the lake from the cottage and the view of the forest from the hot tub were breathtaking. The cottage itself is incredible. We enjoyed the gourmet kitchen, the comfortable beds, the foosball table, reading in the sun room and relaxing in front of the T.V. There was plenty of room for ourselves and 5 kids. Our hosts left so many personal touches, the cottage was incredibly clean, and we barely had to pack anything which made our trip so convenient. We were very lucky to spend a week there.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review! We're delighted that you had a great March Break with your family - we remember enjoying many spring breaks at the cottage with our kids when they were younger, spending time together outdoors and playing board games and cards in the evenings, or even having the occasional campfire in the winter! I'm also glad you noticed (and appreciated) the comfortable beds, the cleanliness of the cottage, and the convenoence of not having to pack much of anything. We hope you'll visit again!
