SUMMER 2026 - 2 Weeks open in August Only Rent our beautiful 4 bedroom 2.5 bath FAMILY Cottage in Buckhorn, Ontario. (Instagram @themcdonaldcottage) Situated on Buckhorn Lake in the Kawarthas, The McDonald Cottage is the perfect year round getaway for families. Main level has a large open concept kitchen and dining room with gorgeous views of the lake and a walk out to the upper deck with a BBQ, table and seating area to enjoy the view! Renovated kitchen offers quartz counters, vaulted ceilings and is fully loaded with all the amenities you will need! Huge family room with 2 hang out areas, TV, games/ books and more stunning views is the perfect rainy day hangout or game night spot!
Main level also offers 2 bedrooms: 1 King and 1 Queen as well as 1 full bathroom with tub/shower, an additional 2 pc bathroom as well as laundry and is approx. 1430 sq ft.
The lower level is above grade and offers the same beautiful lake views with tons of large windows and offers 2 bedrooms: 1 Queen and 1 double bunk room, plus a 3pc bathroom, hangout area and walk out to the yard.
Due to the bedroom layout, we are only able to accommodate a max of 6 adults + kids.
Armour stone steps take you down the long grassed yard to the newly built dock and steps into the shallow shoreline. This is the perfect spot for kids to play while the family chills on the dock. The bottom is rocky in this area so pack some water shoes for the little kids. The lake is fairly shallow so the water is usually a great temperature for swimming! Brand new armour stone fire pit area was just put in and offers the best spot to watch the sunset and roast marshmallows!
We have a canoe, 2 paddle boards, 2 kayaks and a floating water mat to use at your enjoyment, as well as fishing gear and outdoor games like bocce ball, spike ball, corn hole and more!
We are located only 6 minutes away from the town of Buckhorn which has a general store, LCBO, restaurants, groceries etc. We are also located 25 mins from Bobcaygeon, 25 mins from Lakefield and about 35-40 mins from Peterborough.

| Our family truly enjoyed our stay. The place has everything you will need for a great relaxing lake vacation in Kawarthas. Andrea is a spectacular host. The rooms are very comfortable and TV room is well equipped. Games galore inside and outside to keep you and guests entertained

| We just came back from an amazing week away at the McDonald Cottage. The location is perfect for relaxation and/or fun days spent in or on the water. The cottage itself is a beautiful space with plenty to do if you find yourself rained in. We loved the views and the kitchen is well stocked with utensils and tools which got a thumbs up from the chef in our family. The cottage has everything you need for a special getaway. And not to mention that Andrea was a pleasure to communicate with which is always a bonus when booking a place to stay. I would highly recommend this cottage for a lovely vacation getaway in Buckhorn!

| We've been vacationing in the Kawartha region for many years, but this was our first time renting McDonald cottage. Our family had an absolutely wonderful time staying here. The cottage was spotless, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything we needed both indoors and out. We loved spending our days fishing, kayaking and boating and playing board games and relaxing by the bon fire in the evenings. The cottage is located just a short drive from the town of Buckhorn for shopping and Chinese food at Cody Inn (a family tradition). Buckhorn Yacht Harbour is also a very short drive from the cottage for fellow boaters looking to drop their boat in these incredible lakes!
Andrea (owner) was very friendly, accommodating and responsive! We highly recommend renting this property for making special memories! Andrea, thanks again for sharing your property!

| I can't say enough wonderful things about the McDonald Cottage. My family has been renting this cottage for years, and it has truly become a special place for us. Every visit feels like coming home.
This winter, I did something different and brought a group of girlfriends up for a girls' getaway — and it was absolutely perfect. The cottage is just as magical in the winter as it is in the warmer months. Cozy, peaceful, and beautifully maintained, it creates the ideal setting for relaxing, reconnecting, and slowing down.
Whether it's family time filled with memories or a weekend escape with friends, the McDonald Cottage delivers every time. It's the perfect balance of comfort and charm, with everything you need for a rejuvenating weekend away.
