NOTES In summer high season, rentals are from Friday to Friday with a minimum of one week stay. REVIEWS | Janet | |
| It was a wonderful, relaxing stay with spectacular views of Devil Lake from many vantage points both inside and outside. The house has plenty of natural light, modern design, a well equipped kitchen with lots of space to chit chat while cooking. Clean and great linens, large bedrooms each with a wonderful view. Eating inside or outside or relaxing on the dock, the place works so well especially for larger groups, to have time together or some solo time. Hugh's vegetable garden is great and Paula's flowers on the counter is most appreciated. Loved the skylight in the shower area. Many special touches to make your stay even better than you expected. Thanks!

| The Bedford Lake House is a touchstone work, inside and out. The bedrooms were all well lit, beautifully decorated, each with its own exit. Three bedrooms each had a small private porch and a gorgeous lake view and the 4th had a view of a small lawn and a marsh. The shared common room had a stunning view of the lake which was hard to tear ourselves away from. The kitchen was immaculate and well-equipped; it was designed in such that no one would be isolated from the fun, even if doing dinner prep. The outdoor spaces were equally attractive and well-equipped, with marvellous views from the deck and BBQ to suit any occasion. Our little gang loves kayaking and this property is in the knock-it-out-of-the-park category in this regard. Devil Lake is among the cleanest lakes you might see and is large enough that a kayaker would never run out of things to explore. Early morning and evening swimming off the dock was also a refreshing joy. Hugh and Paula also invited us to enjoy the fruits of their labour as they have a marvelous garden full of tomatoes, strawberries, beans, chili, eggplant, squash, etc. It was a pleasure to go out each morning to see what nature's bounty had to offer. The property complemented its natural surroundings so well, rather than imposing upon them. For this, we complement Hugh and Paula not only for being the best of hosts but also for their high standard of stewardship. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

| This house deserves SIX stars! Everything about the property and the building is extremely well thought-out and of the highest quality. Upon arrival, the trip down the driveway prepares the guest for the quality of accommodations: the grounds are maintained to a professional standard and the guests are invited to help themselves to the vegetable garden: tomatoes, lettuces, zucchini, beans, cabbage, strawberries, etc. Upon entering the house, the feeling of arriving at a luxury resort continues. Firstly, one is struck by the stunning view to the lake, then the absolute sparkling cleanliness. Next one notices the spacious comfort of the furnishings, the calibre of the artwork, the thoughtfulness of the lighting -- each aspect made us feel that every need had been anticipated. The kitchen is probably the best-equipped we've ever seen. The bedrooms (each with its own bathroom) are thoughtfully placed to enable privacy. After many years of renting cottages in Southern Ontario - Muskoka, The Kawarthas, Rideau Lakes - our family and friends (eight of us in total) unanimously felt that we had hit the bullseye. Devil Lake is one of the cleanest lakes we've ever seen and there is remarkably little development = remarkably little noise. We are looking forward to returning next summer and to giving some serious consideration to a visit in the fall or even the winter. The house is so well-designed, built and maintained that we feel we would be assured a great experience in any season.

| This was our second stay at the Lake House, the first being in the summer of 2023. Words really can't describe how magical this place is. The view is amazing by day, and the sunsets are incredible. The house has everything you need, and then some. Paula and Hugh have thought of everything?including an amazing garden! We have enjoyed our teenage/young adult kids making incredible memories with us, their friends and grandparents at the lake house, whether it be kayaking or canoeing, jumping off the lily pad or simply enjoying a refreshing swim in the beautiful waters of Devil Lake. Everything you need for fun on the water can be found here. We love the fact that the house is big enough that people can have their own space (what a bonus those extra bathrooms are!) but that there are also a lot of gathering spots, both at the water and at the house. So many laughs have been had around the outdoor dining table, and my husband and I have definitely enjoyed the quiet coffees shared on the balcony. The Lake House is luxurious and yet feels like home.

| On our first day, the 8 year old asked: "Can we live here?" All the comforts of home, and the pleasures of nature. The beds were comfy and rooms were spacious, so we could spread out and have privacy. We paddled in the canoe and kayaks and saw turtles tanning on the rocks. The lawn was our playground for BYO croquet and frisbee. We had a blast at the lakefront, caught many fish off the dock and roasted campfire goodies. The lake was surprisingly warm for swimming and very few boats (unlike noisy Muskoka). We liked the luxury touches: books, chessboard, gourmet kitchen and an elegant dining room for meals and game night. Spectacular sunsets too. We explored Westport and found a museum of local history, shops and lakefront dining. Free EV chargers! It was a short trip to Kingston, to drop my son at the VIA train to Toronto, which made it possible for him to join our reunion. We also recommend a car trip to Chaffey's Lock on the Rideau System. Next door is The Opinicon historic resort for lunch and ice cream treats. Lots to do here in summer so you can get off your phone! Thanks to Hugh and Paula for being attentive hosts.
