Lovely log house 40 minutes from Ottawa in Quebec Enjoy a relaxing and peaceful stay at our cozy log cottage/ house that sits on a ridge 100 feet above Lac Bernard, 12 minutes from Wakefield. Close to farmland and nestled in the trees, our family cottage has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms (claw foot tub, no shower) living and dining area, with a large covered deck facing a lovely, northwest view of the lake and beautiful sunsets. The call of the loons will echo in the evening as you relax on the deck with dinner, or you can watch the hummingbirds in the morning, sipping your coffee or tea.
The kitchen is equipped with fridge, stove, microwave, pots, pans, dishware, utensils and coffee maker. Staples, condiments and linens along with a tabletop Weber BBQ on the deck, are available for your use.
For your entertainment, there's a dart board, Scrabble, Chess and other games, cards, books, jig saw puzzles, and other ways to unplug and relax. We have a CD player and a wide range of music, a small TV (27 inch) and DVD's for your viewing pleasure. You can get cell reception outside on the front porch, but generally not inside the cottage. There is no satellite or internet service. You can do a little stargazing at night too!
There are country lanes in and around the lake area, and hiking areas in Wakefield and Chelsea as they border on Gatineau Park. In addition to walking paths along the Gatineau River between Wakefield and Chelsea, several golf courses and ski resorts are within a 20 minute drive.
A walking path (no steps) leads down approximately 100 feet to the waterfront (45 feet) where there is an older canoe and row boat available for use along with paddles and life jackets.
We rent to quiet, older adult couples and small families. We don't allow pets as we have allergies. The property may not be suitable for small children with the cottage located on a the ridge with a deck and balcony higher off the ground.
The rent is $200 per night, $500 for a 3 day weekend, two night minimum stay. Weekly rates are $1,250 week. A damage deposit is required to secure the dates (half of the rental total and is refundable after inspection is completed). Full payment is due before the rental date, payable by cheque/cash. There is a cleaning fee of $125 and we'll arrange cleaning once your stay has ended.
Wakefield has a General Store where you can buy most supplies, two bakeries (one organic), several specialty stores with local items, a pharmacy, coffee and ice cream shops as well as restaurants. Le Moulin (The Mill) hotel is located just off the main road of Riverside Drive and has internet services. Hiking trails are just steps away from Le Moulin and a restaurant, lounge and spa are part of the Inn.
