| The listing photos looked beautiful, but the cottage was not properly cleaned or prepared for guests.
Our experience included:
• Thousands of spiders covering the ceilings, walls, floors, closet doors and corners
• Dozens of spiders and webs hanging above the loft bed
• Bugs and webs covering every interior windowsill
• Webs and spider nests covering the patio furniture, stairs, balcony and outdoor surfaces
• A dirty kitchen counter and unclean toilet
• Dirty cutlery left on the loft bed
• Musty bedding that did not smell freshly laundered
• A used bar of soap and personal care products left in the shower
• Thick dust buildup on the fans and other surfaces
• Dog hair covering a chair, despite the listing stating that pets were not permitted
• Almost no firewood, despite the listing stating it was included
My husband and I spent nearly two hours cleaning and removing spiders, but we barely made a difference. We did not feel comfortable having our family stay there and had to leave immediately to find other accommodations.
We understand that cottages near the water will have insects, but this went far beyond what is reasonable. The owner admitted that he had not checked the loft before our arrival. He then refused to return our deposit because we did not give him an opportunity to clean, even though the extent of the neglect could not have been corrected quickly.
I would not recommend this rental based on its condition.

| My husband and I spent a week at this cozy cottage. We loved that it was right on the water and spent many hours sitting our on the covered deck. The upper deck was nice too for "happy hour" ! It was very peaceful and the cottage had everything we needed. Stores were close by in Gananoque. So handy ! I visited Landons Bay Park and hiked to the lookout, a great place to go.
We would love to go back next year !

| My wife and I spent a relaxing week in August 2025 enjoying the view, kayaking the river and exploring the area. This cottage has everything you need for adults to unwind. We had our young grandchildren for the second week and they were quickly bored. The greenspace is very small and there is no public park nearby. Gananoque has a lovely beach and splashpad, and there is a rocky beach at Halstead Bay Lookout nearby. The small beach at Red Dog Cottage is rocky and quite weedy. There is also HP Powersports nearby if you want to rent a Seadoo ... it was a BLAST ! We will definitely return when the kids are a bit older.

| Red Dog Cottage has proven to be exemplary again for our second stay and will be booking for 2026! We are thrilled to have discovered this gem! Rob generously supplies extras that are often overlooked. He also responds to messages promptly. Cottage was clean with comfy, tasteful furniture and numerous nautical touches throughout. There is a very adequately sized deck with the best whimsical adirondack chairs .the must have summer seating! The upper deck was our fav for morning coffee and that view was our destination every day. Usually we venture out at least once during the week, but not when occupying this cottage ..no desire to leave!!!
